A judicious use of time distortion may help you here.

\transpose c c'{
 \hideNotes g,32\glissando \unHideNotes c'4*7/8  c'4 c'4 r4 |
 \hideNotes c''32\glissando \unHideNotes c'4*7/8  c'4 c'4 r4 |
 a1*3/4\fermata \hideNotes d'4\glissando \unHideNotes |
 ees8->[ c8]-> r4 r2 |
}

It appears the problem I am having has to do with the durations of the
notes - your example uses quarter notes, I am using eighth notes. The
7/8 fraction doesn't work, and I don't know how you came up with that
fraction.

Robin's code as a minimal example works fine.
There are 8 32nd notes to the quarter note; he's used one hidden 32nd to
attach the gliss to, which leaves 7 eighths of a quarter note.

If you're using hidden eighth notes to attach the gliss to, try scaling
the next note by 1/2 -- e.g.

\hideNotes g,8 \glissando \unHideNotes c'4*1/2

Making such changes to Robin's example acheives similar results with
tighter spacing.

Here is my error -

And then patiently adjust padding and minimum-length ...

Partcombine - appear as one set of notes when the same?

2009-03-09 Thread Garrett Fitzgerald
I'm working on transcribing Sousa's "Fairest of the Fair" for Mutopia.
I just got to the Oboe part, and hit a roadblock. The Oboe part is
actually Oboe 1 and Oboe2 printed on the same staff, with only one set
of notes printing when they're playing together. Here's the first of
the sections where this takes place.
-oboe.ly starts-
\version "2.11.63"

oboeOne = \relative c'' {
  \clef treble
  \key ees \major

  \repeat percent 2 { g'4 aes } | g4. f8 | ees8 r ees,4->(\mf |

g8) bes g4~ | g8 g16( aes bes8) a16( bes |
c8) bes c4~ | c8 bes16( c d8) c16( d |
ees8) ees16( f g8) g16( f | ees8) bes g ees |
d8 f d4~ | d8 d16( ees f8) ees16( f |
g8) bes g4~ | g8 g16( aes bes8) a16( bes) |
\repeat percent 2 {\acciaccatura d8 c8 b c4 | }
\acciaccatura d8 c8 b c c | d8 r aes'4( |
g4)_\markup {\italic "giocoso"} aes( | g4 aes |
g4. f8 | ees2 | \repeat percent 2 {g4 aes | }
g4.) f8 |
  }
  \alternative { { ees8 r ees,4 } { ees'8 r ees,4 } }
}

oboeTwo = \relative c'' {
  \clef treble
  \key ees \major

  \repeat percent 2 {bes4 c} | bes4. aes8 | g8 r ees4->\mf
  \repeat volta 2 { d8 f d4~ | d8 d16( ees f8) ees16( f |
g8) bes g4~ | g8 g16( aes bes8) a16( bes |
c8) bes c4~ | c8 bes16( c d8) c16( d |
ees8) ees16( f g8) g16( f | ees8) bes g ees |
d8 f d4~ | d8 d16( ees f8) ees16( f |
g8) bes g4~ | g8 g16( aes bes8) a16( bes) |
\repeat percent 2 {\acciaccatura d8 c8 b c4 | }
\acciaccatura d8 c8 b c c | d8 r bes4~ |
bes4 c( | bes4 c
bes4. aes8 | g2 | \repeat percent 2 {bes4 c | }
bes4.) aes8 |
  }
  \alternative { { g8 r ees4 } { g8 r ees4\p } }
}

\score {

-oboe.ly ends-
Partcombine here gives me two sets of stems for each note. I'd like it
to look like the original, which you can see at
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/diglib/ihas/loc.natlib.sousa.200028144/enlarge.html?page=3§ion=ALLPARTS&size=640.
Is there a relatively painless way to do this? Or should I just grit
my teeth and take the extra stems? Thanks.

Been experimenting with the code found in the snippets library and seems
that where ever I put the \cadenzaOff I get different, incorrect
results. Sometimes the first eight note turns into a quarter note,
sometimes it's an eight note, but always the measure and the one that
follows are all one measure. I've pasted the code to the work in
progress below.

Is there a particular reason for having the cadenza, as opposed to using
code like that provided by Robin?

Why do you use << >> around a single staff? I don't know that it's giving
you any problems, but it's certainly not necessary. And I find that
arbitrary simultaneous constructs sometimes cause spurious results.

I recommend that you only use << >> when you need to have two (or more)
things happen simultaneously; that is not the case in any of these \score

Canorus 0.7beta release

2009-03-09 Thread Matevž Jekovec
After more than a year of an active development Canorus team is proud to
announce immediate release of Canorus version 0.7beta.

You can download it here:
https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6144

Release 0.6 was skipped for various stability, timing and
reorganizational issues.

Users should test the beta release thoroughly and report any bugs to our
devel mailing list for the final version to be released in two to three
weeks.

Translation strings are now frozen until the final version, so
translators are welcome to translate Canorus to their language and post
translations of the GUI and the User's manual until Sunday, 22nd March
2009 24:00 CET!

Best wishes.

A judicious use of time distortion may help you here.

\transpose c c'{
 \hideNotes g,32\glissando \unHideNotes c'4*7/8  c'4 c'4 r4 |
 \hideNotes c''32\glissando \unHideNotes c'4*7/8  c'4 c'4 r4 |
 a1*3/4\fermata \hideNotes d'4\glissando \unHideNotes |
 ees8->[ c8]-> r4 r2 |
}

And then patiently adjust padding and minimum-length ...

Cheers,
Robin

glissando up from no note to a note

2009-03-09 Thread Chip
I want to make a glissando go up from no note to a note. I tried using a
spacer note, it didn't work. I tried using hideNote and unHideNote
(basically reversed the sample in the snippets list) but it just
resulted in messed up measures. There is no example in the documentation
on how to do this.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chip

Where did you find only 2.10?

I changed the one and only wiki page and the module download page

emacs LilyPond-mode and lilypond-templates package

2009-03-09 Thread Shelagh Manton
Last year I put together a package of templates to make it easy to use
the templates in the documentation. I tried to make it easy to install.
As you know LilyPond is a moving target but they still work for me as
they stand.

They may prove useful to others. I know I had a great deal of fun putting
them together.

They can be found at
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond-templates/downloads/list

I put them up at google-code so that they didn't just disappear but to my
surprise, someone has actually downloaded them. I decided that I would
let people on the list know they existed. Let me know if they are of
value and how they can be improved. If it is within my skill, I will have
a go at them.

Shelagh

Single-digit time signature with different number

2009-03-09 Thread M Watts

I figured something out myself :)

Now that Sigfrid Karg-Elert's works are public domain, him having been
dead for over 70 years, I'm fiddling with his 25 Caprices & Sonata for
solo saxophone (op. 153).

The Sonata's 2nd movement is in fast 3/4 time, with one beat to the bar,
and its time signature is a simple number "1".

I found that using

\override Staff.TimeSignature #'style = #'single-digit (which I've used
before), and

\set Staff.timeSignatureFraction = #'(1 . 4)

produces exactly the desired result.

So thanx again for this wonderful software.
