Re:Transpose
I am using LP 2.8.6 on a Windows 98 300MHz machine. My current problem is in transposing a song (for a grand daughter) and a whole bunch of double accidentals and natural/accidental combinations have turned up in the resultant printout - not too good for fast recognition by the accompanist (according to my wife). I have found a snippet quoted in NR 1.1.2 for LP 2.12.2 which looks like it could do a simplifying job on the music, but is designed for another notation language other than English. As I wouldn't know an 'es' or an 'is' if I fell over them and know nothing about scheme, I am asking has someone already translated this for an English notation and whether this snippet could be applied to LP 2.8.6. Also choose carefully a transpose interval which does not give too much accidentals. For example, given a tune with sharps in the key signature, if you want it to be transposed half a step up, do not try to transpose it from c to c sharp, because you'll end with many double sharps. Transpose it from c to d flat, which has the same effect but simplifies the resulting key. Re: Sibelius conversion - sib2ly (from NtEd author)
Hi all! Here some remarks by the author of NtEd concerning sib2ly and the mail by Johan Vromans: NtEd has problems importing the MIDI. It seems to insist on putting the 4 voices on a single staff. Indeed, NtEd is the one and only LINUX software which distributes the MIDI notes onto multiple voices per staff. This is necessary in many cases. All other LINUX software MIDI tools produce nonsense if the MIDI -- score process would actually require multiple voices per staff. But true is also: The NtEd MIDI import is buggy, it crashes and hangs :-(( I'm about to implement a new algoritm which partly works but will be published not until May. This will have an appropriate button: Place different MIDI tracks at different staves. Let me explain why the 4 MIDI tracks appear on one staff: There are MIDI files where every staff is in one track. But there are also MIDI files which contain less tracks than instruments. The worst case is: All instruments are in one track. Many music keyboards produce MIDI files of this kind. How is it possible? There is a MIDI command: MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE (PGM), which switches the instrument. A MIDI file of this sort looks like: PGM flute: note c; PGM piano: note d; PGM organ: note f; a.s.o. Of course, I cannot collect these different instruments in one staff. Therefore, I first separate the notes according to the instrument which shall play them. Unfortunately, this algorithm sorts 4 flutes which appear in 4 tracks into one staff :-(( As already mentioned: There will be a button ... -- J.Anders, GERMANY, TU Chemnitz, Fakultaet fuer Informatik ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Re: download versie 2.12
It would be trivial, but as the md5sums would be autogenerated, so it does not buy any protection against anything. Re: Fingering padding with accidentals
2009/3/30 Nick Payne nick.pa...@internode.on.net: The padding that is applied to fingering on the left when there is an accidental is greater than when there is no accidental. From my measurements it seems to default to 0.5 staff units from a note but 0.7 units from an accidental, which looks odd to me. Is it possible to reduce the default padding from accidentals without having to issue a tweak for every occurrence and without changing the padding when there is no accidental? Your measurements are accurate. :) The padding between fingerings and accidentals is the sum of Fingering #'padding (0.5) and AccidentalPlacement #'left-padding (0.2). This should produce the same effect as your tweak: \relative c' { \set fingeringOrientations = #'(left) \override Staff.AccidentalPlacement #'left-padding = #0 f-2 e'-34 fis-2 eis'-3 } Regards, Neil ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user
Re: increasing the distance between tie and note generally
2009/3/30 Stefan Thomas kontrapunktste...@googlemail.com: Dear community, in the below quoted snippet the position of the tie isn't convincing, in my opinion. It should be al little further apart from the notes. Off couse I could type \override Tie #'staff-position all the time, but I would be interested in tweaking it generally. Is there a possibilitie? Try this: \override Tie #'staff-position = #(lambda (grob) (let* ((head (ly:grob-parent (ly:grob-original grob) X)) (head-pos (ly:grob-staff-position head))) (cond ((= head-pos 3) (+ head-pos 2.5)) ((= head-pos -3) (- head-pos 2.5) Regards, Neil ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

2009/3/29 Patrick McCarty pnor...@gmail.com: Since the mf/ directory is changed so infrequently, it would be nice if the fonts could be recompiled whenever mf/*.mf is changed. That way we won't ever have this problem again. Good idea? Definitely. Regards, Neil ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Re:Transpose
Good Morning Robin Robin Bannister wrote :- After a cursory look, I would say this file is badly mangled as regards key signatures. In part one at bar 29 it helps to say \key dfinstead of\key cs because the subseqent notes are e.g. df, gf, ... The original key is df but it was changed in an attempt to get rid of double flats. Also part one should declare _at_least_ one additional key change: at bar 13, to \key gf \major This is odd because to insert this in the low voices you have to first split up the initial 26 silent bars. You had better tell Richard Rogers that - I am working from a copy of the printed score. But then again, at the top it says Generated from a MIDI File by LyFromMIDI ... I believe that is blocked with a blank. It is a residual from my templates. I have this Visual Basic programme that will convert MIDI to Ly if the conditions are right and it has been used on occasions when no paper copy is available. Part of the programme allows me to edit the Ly file and I use this to hand enter from paper copies. So \transpose isn't really your problem at the moment. You have to get it looking right in the original first. The original Ly file did produce an exact (well near enough) copy of the paper copy I was working from but it removed all the chord names which I believe a skilled pianist who can read music readily does not require. As for me, I am no musician of any sort and printed music is a lot of lines and dots on sticks, like looking into a paddock through the wire fence at the remains of a wooded paddock after a bushfire has gone through it. I am forbidden to hum, whistle, sing (?) because I have no notion of pitch or timing - but I do enjoy listening to good music. And yes, Win98 users are stuck at 2.8. I do have computers with much faster chips and later versions, but I am still waiting for a stable version to appear. I thought it would be 2.12 but now there is talk of 2.14 in the next couple of months so heres hoping that we will get a new command \nbd (no bloody doubles) included in it. At least I didn't draw fire from Graham Percival because I did at least read the appropriate section of his new documentation even though Carl says that snippet is broken (in docs for the latest 'stable' version). re: various ornaments
Have anyone figure out what are the difference of these ornaments I refferred yesterday? Another thing: c\turn only places turn above c, thus c\turn e must be played as d16 c b c e4 . But I want to write a turn between c and e, thus played as c8 d32 c b c e4 . How to do that?
