Problems with Individual Parts

2003-08-14 Thread Fabio dos Santos
Hi Guys,

I'm trying to write a ViolinI part which has a solo on a separate staff.

My problem is that when there are no extra staffs, Lilypond adds a
bar-line to the beginning of that staff System. Which grob do I need to
tune so that these bar-lines don't appear when I only have staff/system?

ADVthanksANCE
Fabio.

Confused

2003-01-29 Thread Fabio dos Santos
Ok Guys,

I've been reading the manual, and the whole context / grob / engravers /
properties things have me confused. I can handle basic tasks, and
actually, got the hang of editing more complex parts, but I can't seem
to understand how to tune up things. So I've been tryng to comprehend it
lilypond's internal working a bit better.

So I'm going to ask, and perhaps, this could be put somewhere in the
manual to help out other people who get confused by this as well.
perhaps you guys will enlighten me.

From what I gathered in the Manual, there are three steps that lilypond
takes in order to produce the printable score. The first one is reading
the source that you typed. It separates what it reads into seperate
contexts, and based on these contexts, it decides what grobs will be
placed. It utilizes engravers to calculate which grobs go where, and
their spacing. This spacing depends on many variables which are related
to contexts, and data and grobs that are placed right?

The part that really gets me confused is that the internals manual never
makes it very clear what belongs to what. Also, there isn't a very clear
distinction between context properties, and grob properties, nor how to
change them, or where to change them. Apparently, in terms of syntax,
its just all the same to the user.

The reason I'm sending this email is because I need to make a measure a
bit larger than lilypond was making it, but I faced 2 problems: firstly,
I did not know if I had to change the grobs of the notes, or the staff
context (StaffSpacing?). I figured that problem pritty fast. But then, I
coulnd't figure out, within the context, which was the variable I had to
change, nor which command I had to issue to change it, nor where I had
to issue the command so that only that measure was changed. . . .

So as you can see, i'm pritty confused. Please help me understand
lilypond a bit better.

Fabio.

Adding text-scripts to bars

2002-10-10 Thread Fabio dos Santos

yeah. I agree,

Ataching text-script to Bars is also nice.

As a matter of fact. If you could attach text-stript to any grob-object
it would definately be a hand on the wheel. Althought, i don't if that
is feasable(sp?).

But it would allow you do do some nifty things, like funky instructions
between measures that are turned transparent, or put chords in the
middle of a bar, with diferent formatting than is allows by Lilypond.

But it would be necessary to improve the text-script functions to allow
more control over them, and I imagine that would also be difficult.

But like I said, it would be an extra hand on the wheel for people who
like to go weird on their notation. . . .

removing the StaffSymbol lines (pentagram) and keeping the barlines

2002-10-08 Thread Fabio dos Santos

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble trying to remove the StaffSymbol Lines, and keeping
the barlines. . . Any ideas how I can do that?

here is a snippet of code:

staffAlayerA =  \notes {
\stemUp
r16 b'8 b'16 |
b'8 b'16 b'16 ~  b'16 b'8 b'16 ~|
b'8. b'16 ~  b'16 b'8 b'16   |
b'8 b'16 b'16 ~  b'16 b'8 b'16 ~|
\bar |.
}

staffAglobal = \notes { \key c \major
\time 2/4
\clef treble
\partial 4}

staffA = \context Staff = staffA
 \staffAglobal
 \staffAlayerA

\score {  \staffA
\paper { papersize = a4
 linewidth = 260
 orientation = landscape
 \translator { \StaffContext StaffSymbol
  \override #'line-count = #0 }
}}

PS output looks like junk

2002-10-03 Thread Fabio dos Santos

I'm just wondering,

Are you using tetex, and is it configured to output PS higher than
300dpi??? That could be an explanation as to why the notes output dotty.
. . .

You can change this configuration using the texconfig utility. . . .(if
you are running under *nix enviroments. . . . )

Buglet

2002-09-17 Thread Fabio dos Santos

Ok. So I couln not find any pages that told me how to do a Bug Report.

Bug I believe I got one, so I'm putting it right here. . .

I'm trying to make a sheet at 19pt, Lilypond 1.6.2-1 (Debian
distribution)

I get the following errors:

+

bash-2.05a$ ly2dvi viola.ly
Running LilyPond...

Now processing: `viola.ly'
Parsing...Backtrace:

LilyPond failed on an input file (exit status 2).
Trying to salvage the rest.

Any ideas?? I seemed to work when I was using another workstation with
the 1.6.0 version os lilypond. . . . Could it be my setup?

Thanks and keep up the good work!
Fabio.
