emails innummerable

2018-11-04 Thread Sam Frybyte
Hi- this is not quite off-topic.
I (and assume we) at one time were able to get a once a day list off
all the questions/answers, in one email.
That is clearly not the case any longer.
But.
The current method means that my mailbox receives 10+ emails a day
often about the same issue between the same two people.

It seems inefficient and redundant and I wish the manager could
provide the daily again.

I've tried writing to that person (who is it now?) and gotten no response.

Does anyone else feel this way? If not then it's moot but I am
beginning to regret being on the list.

It does work:

{ \cadenzaOn \acciaccatura c'8 a8[
\acciaccatura b8 ges8]
\times 2/3 {f16[ des des]} des4
}

Phil Holmes

Phil- (and Brian) the quotes that were included in the first message
confused me. And mentioning the triplet where it did work did too.
Without the quotes I was able to understand where the brackets should
go (I was putting them in the wrong places and continued to have to
experiment to get it 'right' individually/per situation.) Thank you
both for your help

Mr. Barker
It doesn't work. I tried this and at least in version 2.18.2 nothing
happens- Unless you mean I must include the quotation marks? and if
you do where is this information in the manual? Otherwise without the
marks nothing happens.

beaming with cadenzaOn

2017-05-31 Thread Sam Frybyte
If there is a time signature the beaming of 8th notes with
acciaccaturas between them is created as I expect.
in version. 2.18.2
with \cadenzaOn
\stemUp\acciaccatura c'8 \stemNeutral a8
\stemUp\acciaccatura b8 \stemNeutral ges8
\times 2/3 {f16 [des des]} des4

I have not been able to figure out or find a way for the 8ths to be beamed.
Please direct me to the place in manual where this is found.
Thank you. Or if it's not in the manual and there's a solution that you know
I look forward to knowing this.

Re:new to this list - converting from Noteworthy Composer

2017-03-22 Thread Sam Frybyte
I occasionally use NWC2 now (and have from their early early days to
nwc2, a lot of my catalogue is at their scriptorum) and nwc2ly was
never very useful. However (and just like NWC) using midi2ly will
act/work just like taking a midi file and having NWC make notation
WITH the same issues i.e. all sorts of odd things.

However one other approach would be to take the txt feature of nwc and
in an editor change all the values into lilypond ones. That would
give you more control over output.

Lastly I have used NWC for some large projects and when I switched
over to Lilypond I just transcribed future projects (not go back and
redo everything) and changed NWC into lily only if I changed something
in concept/instrumentation etc.

hope this gives some insight. If you are used to using the text part
of NWC learning lilypond won't be such a high learning curve.

Can't find right hand fingering without string #'s

2015-08-15 Thread Sam Frybyte
Hello-
There used to be simple way to notate p,i,m,a for guitar music by adding -p
or _p. This no longer works in 2.18.2 and searching snippets and online
manuals it seems this is no longer possible
I've tried editing the c- 3/5- RH #1 and can only get it to work for #1
is there a place to look in the manuals for the formerly simple method?
Thanks

Re: Can't find right hand fingering without string #'s

2015-08-15 Thread Sam Frybyte
Thank you both- turns out that for a (annular or ring finger) the only
thing that works is c-a the other two don't work.
As for the 'incomprehensible' thank you Patrick for pointing out the
missing backslash still wouldn't have worked but somehow in the copy/paste
into the email it 'got lost'.

Thanks again- however I still couldn't find this in the docs.where is
it now because it didn't seem to be in the guitar fingering section.

This sentence is utterly incomprehensible, and it is not clear what the
code fragment is supposed to be about or for or what it is supposed to
demonstrate. It does not appear to constitute code that would have
worked in any context in any version of LilyPond.

Jay is referring to the examples here:
 http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/notation/common-notation-for-fretted-strings#right_002dhand-fingerings.
Looks like he just forgot to place a backslash in front of RH.

ossia label?

2015-06-27 Thread Sam Frybyte
 I'm using 2.18.2 and have 1 measure then 1 measure of \new Staff {\clef
treble ) below (though I'd like it above both existing staves that's
less important) then ten measures and 3 measures of a \new Staff etc
both
I'd like to label with an instrument (1st Clarinet 2nd Viola).
Using the ossia format I've not figured this out...Please direct me to
the
correct part of manuals.
I realize that I could score it for 3 staves but this seemed easier
right
up until I wanted instrument labels
Thanks

Re:how to place fermata over \breathe?

2013-02-17 Thread Sam Frybyte
Thanks to all trying to help the forgetful.
The # did not solve the problem--- what it did do was allow the file to
compile without the fermata - so just the breath mark.
The longer solution i.e. Mr. Morley's does work both of them-
so now I'm wondering is there a way to make this a global setting?
At the moment I have put it before each instrument's staff this works but
I'm guessing there's a cleaner way to do it.

Thanks again. I do forget that you all are using the unstable versions.
Sorry
