If that's the case: Maybe some scriptguru can write a script that checks
the mutopia collection for files without an embedded version number,
then reads the "More information", and then adds a "\version xxx" to all
of these files :-)

This timeline does exist. If you browse the source code tree that
lives in the git repository, every release is marked with a tag on a
particular commit that has a time stamp.
For example, the tag "release/0.0.1" is october 8, 1996.

Maybe it is possible to search systematically this tree looking for
tags by a git command I am not aware of.

If you click at "More information" in the music listing field
for the piece at Mutopia, you will find information on which
LilyPond version the piece was written for. For this particular
piece, you can see at
http://www.mutopiaproject.org/cgibin/piece-info.cgi?id=107

that it's for version 1.4.7.

Unfortunately there is no version info in the source

Any tips for how to bring that source to newest version
of lilypond?

RE: Mutopia which version?

2008-12-02 Thread Nick Payne
I've run across this same problem a couple of time when attempting to add
fingerings etc to ly sources downloaded from Mutopia. If there is no version
number in the file, I look for other Mutopia files uploaded at about the
same time until I find one with a version number and use that as the version
number.

It would be useful in situations like this to have somewhere in the Lilypond
documentation a timeline of release dates. Maybe it's there, but I had a
brief look a while ago and didn't find it.

Herbie,

I saw that the date the file was uploaded to Mutopia was in 2001, a
really long time ago in Lilypond years, so I arbitrarily added \version
"1.6.10" to the file and ran convert-ly. There's a problem with the
lyrics but after commenting out one line I got the file to compile and
produce a .pdf. I don't have time to investigate further but perhaps
it's enough for you to work with. File attached, good luck,

Mutopia which version?

2008-12-02 Thread Herbert Liechti
Hello

I'm trying to compile the following piece of music with
lilypond 2.11.63:

http://www.mutopiaproject.org/ftp/BachJS/O_Haupt_voll_Blut/O_Haupt_voll_Blut.ly

Unfortunately there is no version info in the source
file for converting with convert-ly. Compiling the source
is also not working.

Any tips for how to bring that source to newest version
of lilypond?

Thanks & best regards
Herbie
