I've never used LilyPond on a Mac myself, but as far as I can understand, there is an option "Update syntax" in the compile menu for LilyPond, see the section "Updating with convert-ly" in the manual. I hope you updated the file syntax first to correspond to your version of LilyPond. The .ly files were written for version 2.2.6 and much has changed since then.
