Contact Weston Art and Innovation Center. They have a very good instructor.
There are “maker sessions” which only cost $5. You can coordinate with their
sewing instructor.

[LincolnTalk] ISO help with sewing machine and basic use lessons

2022-09-22 Thread lisa freedman
Hi -
I am looking for someone to help me do two things (hopefully one person or
place).

  1. Untangle a relatively new sewing machine (less than 5 years old)
  2. Give me lessons on basic use of said machine. Nothing fancy. Running
the machine, threading the needle, sewing a straight line and ending the stich
correctly

Does not need to be done for free but not willing to pay large amount.
Thank you for any leads.

[LincolnTalk] Farrar Road Advisory Shoulder Pilot update

2022-09-22 Thread Ginger Reiner
Lincoln:

We are at the halfway point of the Farrar Road advisory shoulder one-year
pilot. The Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the Department of
Public Works and Lincoln Police have been monitoring the new roadway
striping and collecting feedback. As we consider the last six months we
have two things we want to share:

1, We have noticed some confusion by drivers on how the road should be
used. Specifically, when a car is traveling down Farrar Rd with no
oncoming traffic, the car should be in the center lane, between the two
dashed lines. When two cars approach each other traveling opposite
directions, each may encroach upon their right hand advisory shoulder, so
long as there is no pedestrian or cyclist already there. If there is a
pedestrian or cyclist present, the car moves into the shoulder behind the
pedestrian or cyclist, and travels behind them until the oncoming car has
passed and there is space to pull back into the center lane and safely pass
the walker or biker. This is a good video from Ottawa showing proper usage
of a road with advisory shoulders.
 (Note that in this video
the roadway striping is referred to as advisory cycling lanes.)

2, We want your feedback! Please let us know what you think of the
advisory shoulder installation by filling out this very short form:
https://forms.gle/i3KyfgHpM3SPF16f9 .

Thank you!
Ginger Reiner, on behalf of the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee

[LincolnTalk] Cost of electricity

2022-09-22 Thread Leslie Turek
There was an article in the Globe about National Grid and Eversource asking
for rate hikes around 60% next year due to the increased cost of natural
gas. Can someone here speak on the outlook for our town electrical
aggregation program? For those of us who selected the 100% green option,
the cost of natural gas shouldn't have such a big impact, right? I'm
curious to know what to expect.
Thanks,

[LincolnTalk] Supporting Donelans and its Sustainable Products

2022-09-22 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Introducing Zero Waste Lincoln

Support Donelans and its sustainable products!

Zero Waste Lincoln is a sub group of Mothers Out Front. We formed during the
pandemic at the request of town management and the DPW. Lincoln’s beloved Swap
Shed had been closed for safety reasons and residents and Mothers Out Front
Lincoln were eager to have it be reopened. After much brainstorming, we
decided to create Zero Waste Lincoln. So the Swap Shed and the Book Room have
been successfully open again for the past 18 months with the support of the DPW
and so many wonderful town volunteers. Thousands of items have found new homes
with Lincoln families or have been delivered to organizations who will reuse
them.

But Zero Waste Lincoln also works on the purchasing side of our trash problem.
Donelans have become an important ally in making sure that when we shop, there
are sustainable options. Jason Deveau, the manager, is happy to find non
plastic options for products.

Here are a few of the new more sustainable products you can find at Donelans

….Laundry detergent in cardboard –3 brands available

….Shampoo and conditioner bars –Brixy brand

….100% recycled toilet tissue and paper towels–2 brands available

….compostable single use plates/utensils/cold cups and straws

….compostable trash bags

….100% recycled aluminum foil

…Juices–large selection of flavors all in glass bottles

…paper bags for school lunches

….Single us water bottles in aluminum

….and of course, choose fruits and vegetables that are in season, grown locally
 and not packaged in plastic.

So check out Donelans…challenge your children to search the aisles for items
not in plastic!

The consumer choices we make send strong messages about the products we want to
see on the shelves.

Let us know of other products you would like to see in our local stores
