[LincolnTalk] seeking snow removal help

2022-12-11 Thread Karen Seo
My regular snow shoveler broke his shoulder. So I need someone to clear
snow from paths, gates, feed pens, hayfeeders, etc.  Can take all day if
there's a lot of snow.  I can supply snow blower and shovel.  Please
send recommendations to me and I'll compile and post.  Thank you.

Re: [LincolnTalk] cat toys and climbing

2022-12-11 Thread Carol Bickford via Lincoln
Lucky You!

Cats vary in what they like. While one of mine goes crazy for a tunnel,
another could care less. One prefers string (as long as a human is dragging it
around) and another loves balls. The simplest being rolled up newspaper to bat
around. Cardboard boxes are another play thing. Catnip toys are a favorite.
These can be DIY too 😊. A baby sock works if you aren’t a sewer(knot the end).
I find rotating toys is good too. For example, I will put the tunnel away when
I am tired of looking at it and bring it out again later. Laser pen lights are
good. I have found that investing in an office type laser pointer has been
easier on my fingers and the animal variety. I also found they last longer.
Although the quality of the pet toy variety has improved over the years.

Some cats prefer to be high as in perching up over everybody and others are
more ground dwellers. Once you have an idea what your cat is, you can tailor
the cat condo to the height they like. Mine are all climbers, so I have a
ladder (that I have attached toys to) so they can climb up on top of a bookcase
to hang out. I actually have a series of wall shelves and they can chase each
other up one side and down the other. This can be DIY or there are many
options on Etsy and such.

You will need some good scratch posts. My ladder has several places where I
glued thick jute rope. They use that a lot! Katris has some wonderful
cardboard forms that they can lounge on and scratch.(Amazon or their website)

Take time to learn how to clip/trim their claws- unless they will be outdoor
cats (they need their sharp claws outside!)

Have fun. If you are having fun, your cat will be too.

Hi, Debra. Congratulations on joining the community of cat-fanciers. (“Dogs

a message and get back to you.”)

The toy that my cat(s) continue to love is the wand, with a cord and a feather
or (catnip) mouse at the end of it. Of course, this requires a human at the
other end to wave it around. You can also use a laser pointer to let the cat
chase the red dot, but that can be frustrating for the cat because she can
never catch it. More passive toys – my cats loved a tunnel, but I eventually
put it away because it was taking up space on my living room floor and I was
always tripping over it. I may get it out again sometime. And I have a
floor-to-ceiling “cat condo”, with a cozy hidey-hole and a top level perch.
(When my cats were younger they’d fly through the air to get there; now they
have to climb up.) These can be expensive, but well worth it, in my view, and
they can be attractive enough to blend in with your own furniture. I have had
limited success with “automatic” battery-operated toys, like the one
recommended by Leslie. There’s also one that you can hang on a closet door.
But cats will be cats, and mine seem to crave human interaction. I’m also
fortunate that I live in a house with a (front) balcony) and a (rear) patio –
lots of opportunity for bird- and squirrel-watching from safety indoors. I’ve
never tried “Kitty TV” – maybe others have?

What is your cat’s name? Mine is Daphne.

2022-12-11 Thread Leslie Turek
I will recommend the one toy that has held my cat's attention for many
months. He plays with it several times a day and has not yet tired of it. I
will warn you, though, that it runs through batteries very quickly, so the
best thing to do is also get a set of rechargeable batteries to go with it.

[LincolnTalk] My Father's bio, Thank you

2022-12-11 Thread Bijoy Misra
Dear friends,
Some of you may recall that I was requested by the Government of India
to put together a bio of my father for their event of the 75th anniversary
of India's independence. It took me two years to complete the project. I
sent the manuscript last June. It was reviewed by their literary panel and
was formally moved for publication early this month. The book is in my
native
language Odia and it will be translated to major Indian languages including
English. The publication date is likely 2023 summer.
Ther book is the story of a brilliant young man who left college to join
the
India's freedom struggle and eventually made himself into a progressive
poet of the masses. His political troubles in the '70s with the Government
were among the causes prompting me to leave India for the US.
Through this note, I thank my neighbors and the townspeople for their
sympathy and support in this project. Writing about my father, I did come
across episodes of freedom of expression here in Lincoln Talk and did
learn facets of human sentiment from many debates in this Forum.
I wish to thank Lincoln Talk and many readers who communicate with me
on topics of interest.
Best regards,

Dear Neighbors with HP Printers,

After purchasing replacement printer toner along with a used HP LaserJet
printer three years ago, I just discovered that the cartridges aren’t actually
compatible with my printer. So I’m selling the toner deeply discounted in hopes
it will be useful to someone out there who might have the right printer match.
Please note that it seems the black ink is compatible with different printers
than the color 3-pack.

Genuine HP 26X High Yield Black Original LaserJet Toner Cartridge, CF226X

* Please note that I just opened the plastic shell that holds this cartridge
two days ago, not realizing that it was incompatible with my printer. I didn’t
even remove the cartridge from the shell, so it should be in perfect condition.
