Thanks, Darin. I would be interested to learn what our per capita usage was
last year and whether the unusual restrictions last summer brought that
number down in comparison to previous years.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Looking for a small machine which I use to till my small garden.

2023-05-15 Thread Anne Warner
I don’t tho k you need any tools other tha a shovel and a lot of elbow grease.
I would just double dig the area, put the dirt on the tarp and then rake out
the lily of the valley roots from the loosened dirt. You have to go down about
two shovels depth to get them all. It’s an opportunity to dig some compost into
the earth as you return it to the bed. The Black Earth Compost pile is at
Codman Farms right now and costs a dollar a gallon. Go with some pails then
combine it with the dirt you put back in the bed. If you really want to improve
the soil while you have it out, add some manure, peat moss, and a handful or
two of lime and bone meal. You will still be pulling lilies of the valley out
by their roots for a couple of years, but you will have broken the back of the
problem….and created some great soil in the process!

[LincolnTalk] Water Dept Alert: Mandatory Water Conservation Level 1 Enacted as of May 1st

2023-05-15 Thread LaFalam, Darin
The mandatory seasonal water use restrictions are in effect from May 1st until
September 30. We are currently in stage 1 water conservation level.

a) Level 1 (Mild Drought): All nonessential outdoor water uses are
restricted to no more than one day per week, before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.,
except that watering of ornamentals and flower gardens with drip irrigation,
hand-held house or watering cans may be permitted.

Though the State of Massachusetts has currently not declared a drought, we are
forced in our Water Management Act Water Permit to be one level more strict
that the State drought declaration. This is because we exceeded the residential
gallons per capita per day target of 65 gallons in previous years, including
2022.

Thank you for your attention and compliance in this matter.

Appreciatively,

Darin LaFalam
Water Superintendent

Re: [LincolnTalk] Kids swimming lessons

2023-05-15 Thread Joanna Owen Schmergel via Lincoln
For little kids, Little Flippers in Natick does an excellent job year round.
The water is very warm too so no meltdowns ;)
For older kids year round we have been very happy with the Waltham YMCA:)
We did not have good luck having an instructor come to the pool at our house
when the kids were very little. Because we were also home and because it lacked
the positive peer pressure of other kids it was a disaster, lol
