Well, my cat and mice seemed to have come to an agreement and peaceful
co-existence.
Perhaps LuLu, who was from France, had the wrong pheromones, or maybe it was
his French indifference that convinced the mice is was safe, if not friendly,
territory.
Live and let live was our world.

Re mouse traps, and cats:

They make Have-a-Heart traps for mice. The bait (e.g. peanut butter) lures the
mouse inside, a grid drops and traps but doesnn’t kill the mouse. No blood, no
gore. You then need to take the trap outside, preferably slightly farther than
your neighbor’s yard, and release the mouse. Hopefully it will enjoy its
new-found freedom and stay out there.

I’ve read that simply having a cat, even if it doesn’t hunt, is an effective
deterrent. Apparently cats release pheronomes (or whatever) that mice can
detect and decide that it’s a good plan to stay away.

Other opinions welcome.

If you opt for a cat, though, please think twice about including chemical
mouse poison in your extermination efforts. The poison can pose a danger to
the cat via direct (yummy poison) or indirect (yummy mouse) ingestion.

Re: [LincolnTalk] seeking mouse exterminator

2023-07-15 Thread Kathy Madison via Lincoln
Our cat was very effective for our son when he lived in an apartment in Boston…we loaned her to him — Now we have at least one milk snake in our basement (it showed up…I hadn’t thought of bringing it in) and it does a nice job.  On Jul 14, 2023, at 11:35 PM, Sara Mattes wrote:Doesn’t always work.My cat derived great pleasure sitting and watching the mice scamper about…never ever touched one…never ever tried.Sent from my iPadOn Jul 14, 2023, at 10:08 PM, Sasha Golden wrote:Charlie would be happy to volunteer. Thank you to all who replied -- Mice are clearly a common problem in Lincoln.😁  Here's a
summary of the recommendations so far. I would note that it is a bigger problem to find someone who has time to help than it is to find someone who does a good job.  Will let you know the outcome.

Re: [LincolnTalk] seeking mouse exterminator

2023-07-15 Thread Debra Daugherty
Also, outdoor cats kill birds, which isn't good. On the other hand,
poisoning mice (who then leave the house sick and easy prey) kills mouse
predators, which also isn't good (and creates a vicious circle). Does
anyone have success with trapping?

One must not be allergic….
And some cats are too lazy to hunt, ignore the mice, or are afraid of them!
