[LincolnTalk] Looking for Pop up tents to borrow

2024-06-26 Thread Risa Lavelle
I’m looking to borrow two 10x10 pop up tents for next week for one evening
(July 3) for a performance.

Anyone have one or two I can borrow?

Re: [LincolnTalk] Hanscom DEIR is inadequate

2024-06-26 Thread Sara Mattes
I will share reports from the Bedford Citizen as they become available.
(Or, you can easily subscribe yourself).
The reporter on this issue is Mike Rosenberg.
He is a seasoned journalist-onetime Editor of the Concord Journal, who hired
Susan Fargo to be Editor of the Lincoln Journal-those were the days.

He is former Bedford Selectmen who served along side of me on HATS and HFAC.

We dealt with DEIR’s of yore, and other tangles with Massport, as we worked to
support the Air Force Base from potential closure.
So, Mikes coverage is incredibly well-informed on all aspects and tricky,
sticky wickets.

And while this delay won’t necessarily stop the project, it puts more sticks in
the spokes of the wheel.
It will allow for more pressure from both sides to build.
And, the Massport Board is a creature of the Gov.

The designation of the area and especially. MMNHP as “Endangered” by the Natal
Trust put a spotlight on this…and, I am sure, caused great discomfort…as it
should!

The continued note that this project goes against all the climate goals the Gov
professes to advance is another critical pressure point.

.

Stay tuned….

We have a well
The water tasted great and was always clear.
But, It was incredibly hard.
So, we have a whole house backwash filtration system for that, a neutralizer +
RO for drinking, cooking and frog.
The RO addresses most impurities, taste and also those nasty plastic
particulates.

You might just go for RO.
There are a variety of ways to install it, and varying costs, so do some
research.
We have used Friot for over a decade.
The RO system is our newest addition, and we couldn’t be happier.

Best,
Sara

[LincolnTalk] FS: trailer hitch mount cargo tray

2024-06-26 Thread Caroline Hazen
Hello, Lincoln!

We are selling our black trailer mount cargo tray. This is the item:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G4Z5J0/ The dimensions on that page seem
to be correct, although it is quite a bit heavier than the stated weight of
4.26 lbs!

It holds up to 500 pounds and fits on a 2” trailer hitch. This kind of cargo
tray is useful for hauling all sorts of things for camping, vacations, moving
kids to college, trips to the transfer station, etc.

Our tray has been lightly used and is in great shape. It retails for over
$225, and we’d like to sell it for $75. We’ve got a bungie cord net to go over
the top that we’d be happy to include. Please e-mail me if you’re interested.

Thanks!

Re: [LincolnTalk] Hanscom DEIR is inadequate

2024-06-26 Thread Paul Shorb
Here is a little more detail about the news Chris shared two days ago.

It is great news that on 6/21, the state found the draft environmental
impact report ("DEIR") to be inadequate, primarily because of its claim
without evidence that the additional hangars proposed for the
Hanscom private airfield would not increase private jet traffic. The
project proponents therefore will be required to prepare a Supplemental
DEIR that would address the above issue with more completeness and
precision. For details, you can read the first few pages of that 6/21
determination letter here
.

This is a great first step on the path to stopping this project, which most
observers believe would be a "carbon bomb" due to the great increase in
global warming emissions that we expect it would cause. (See 2-page
explainer here
.)

   - A Supplemental DEIR that provides a more correct estimate of that
increase won't automatically stop the project, because the board of
directors of MassPort would still have the legal authority to approve the
   project.
   - However, if the Supplemental DEIR confirms a great increase in global
warming emissions, that will provide a stronger public opinion lever to
dissuade MassPort from going ahead - in part by pressing the Governor and
other public officials to also pressure MassPort.

Thank you to everyone who submitted comments on the DEIR (including this

excellent
letter from our Select Board) or otherwise has supported the campaign
so far. There will be more work
to do, but we have gotten past a crucial milestone, so let's take
cheer from this moment.

- Paul Shorb

[LincolnTalk] Atlantic article links history, nature and dangers of Hanscom expansion

2024-06-26 Thread bslayter
In the July issue of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg's editor's note, is
entitled "In Wildness is the Preservation of the World" from Henry David
Thoreau's essay, "Walking," first published in The Atlantic in 1862.
Lincoln residents, particularly those who have been working hard to oppose
the expansion of the Hanscom base for use by owners of private jets, will
be interested in the final paragraph of Goldberg's essay which reads:

"Me, I went to Walden Pond. I visit occasionally, walking
the path that starts behind Ralph Waldo Emerson's house and ends up near the
pond's big parking lot and little beach. Thoreau would be surprised by
Walden Pond today: more visitors, much more noise. The noise could get
worse soon. A proposed plan to radically expand a nearby airport for
private jets has conservations and preservationists worried that an
appreciation of the sanctity and history of Concord is not unanimously
shared. One doesn't have to live like Thoreau to understand that wealth
comes in many forms - in the wildness of the world, for instance - and that
returning the planet to some sort of equilibrium is a universal interest."

Hear, hear! Thank you to The Atlantic for its more-than-a
century- long focus on the relationship between people and the natural world
we inhabit, a focus which grows in intensity in this era of climate change.
And thank you, as well, to the residents of Lincoln and neighboring
communities who have been vigorous opponents to the expansion of Hanscom
Airforce Base.
