I've never done that in Shockwave. I don't know if it would be
anything different than from a projector, but here's how I would
approach it. You said that the QT movie is at the same directory
level as your Director movie, so just take the current value of "the
moviePath", and concatenate on the name of your QT movie.

  member("") = the MoviePath & ""

and forget about at signs and slashes.

How about, put the QuickTime on the server, and then link to it.

One has been able to burn files to a dvd-rom, that come from director,

Director is not a dvd-authoring tool, ala scenarist, dvdstudio pro,

Re: Resource Hacker

2004-02-24 Thread KOS & CO.
You can use ResHacker but not for changing projectors icon instead you have
to change projec32.skl.

Changing icon according to macromedia TechNote

32-bit projector (Director 5.0 and above)
The process is similar to a 16-bit projector, but you need to make a copy of
and edit PROJEC32.skl, and there are two icons in the APPICON resource, a
32x32-pixel icon and a smaller16x16.

1 Make a backup copy of projec32.skl.
2 Open projec32.skl as a .exe file format in your favorite resource editor
(for example Microangelo).

3 Edit both the 16x16 and 32x32 icon resources in the icon resource called
APPICON. The resource editor may have a pull-down menu to select the
different sizes.

4 Save the file. Make sure it is still called projec32.skl and is in the
same directory.
5 Create a 32-bit projector. It will now have your own icon.
6 Optional: restore the original version of projec32.skl.

Modifying a 32-bit projector icon requires a 32-bit resource editor, because
I6-bit code and 32-bit code use totally different file formats. For example,
the 16-bit AppStudio in Microsoft Visual C 1.X cannot edit the 32-bit
Projec32.skl. Attempts to do so result in the error: "Incompatible magic
number in executable".

Additionally, when using the MSVC 4.0 DevStudio, this process can only be
performed while running Windows NT. Microsoft states that this occurs
because the API to modify a resource inside 32-bit code is only supported in
Windows NT, not Windows 95. See the MSVC 4.0 FAQ in the Microsoft Visual C
KnowledgeBase (Q138735), and another Microsoft KB article Q139030.

There are dedicated resource-hacking utilities that don't use an API but
just force an icon into the code. Some of these will find and replace the
32x32 large icon in code, but not the 16x16 small icon. Microangelo is a
shareware utility that edits icons and also edits cursors and animated
cursors. Another icon editor is IconMover from Integrated Graphics
(available at www.shareware.com and elsewhere).

To check the 32x32 icon in the resulting application, select the file on the
desktop or Explorer and choose File-Properties. To check the 16x16 icon,
change the folder in which the application resides to View-Small icons. It
may be necessary to refresh the view to force Windows to display the changed
icon.

The Custom Icon does not show up everywhere See Why can't I change a
projector's title bar, task bar and task list icons? (TechNote 1107).

Director could always burn to DVD-ROM, the new abilities don't change
that. I've found that the playback inside Director of DVD-Video, even

Actually I've had little difficulty getting successful fullscreen
playback in *older* versions. You just need to experiment with encoding

There is a behavior in the TextCruncher Xtra demo movie that does what you want. You

search function in Director

2004-02-24 Thread chris stewart
I am trying to construct a search function for a CD-Rom project in Director
using Lingo. I have split the projetc into a number of movies, and I want to
have a single external cast of text members for all these movies. I have
done this so that the texts can easily be updated in other languages at some
future point, and also to make the search function easier (or so I thought).
I am pretty clear about the logistics of what I need to do, but I cannot
sort out the code details (I am a designer not a programmer).

The search set up I propose runs like this:

1) see if the user-enterd text in a "searchWord" sprite is 'contained' in
any of the text members.

(I managed this for a simply routine which compares the searchWord sprite
with one, named or numbered text member, but I can't work out how to tell
Lingo to look at them all. I'm probably being dim, but I can't find how
Lingo uses wild cards or generic statements about cast member names and
numbers etc, so that I could write a general routine covering all the
members of the cast.)

2) write the name of the successful text member (which is preplanned to be a
meaningful phrase, and which is also named to match its relevant label in
the score) into a "results" sprite.

(again I have done this with the simple routine looking at only one text
member, described above, but I can't work out how to get *all* the relevant
results written out, and to have them displayed in neat order one under
another in a box)

3) These listed results then need to become active links to the actual
score, hence the idea of name-twinning text cast members with the labels in
the timeline.

(but once more, I don't know how to get the eventual rows of words displyed
in the "results" box to act as real, clickable links tied to their relevant
score labels. My matching naming convention is obviously essential for this,
but how do you actually match up the words produced by the routine with a
generic navigation code to make sure they all work like a proper search
function?)

I hope this is clear and someone can help with the actual code. I've got a
feeling it involves lists and defining global properties or something like
that, but I can't get any further. Thanks in advance.

XPost: OSControl Xtra 2.1 now available

2004-02-24 Thread James Newton
Hi everyone,

OSControl Xtra allows you to use system-specific buttons, sliders,
scrollbars and other controls in your Director projects. Following the
release of Director MX 2004, an upgrade of the OSControl Xtra is now
available from this page:

This upgrade is free to existing users.

Existing users who have upgraded to DMX 2004 should register their new
serial numbers. You will find details on how to do this in the Read-Me file
that accompanies your keyfile. Site licences holders should contact me
directly, as the new activation procedure for DMX 2004 modifies the way site
licences work.

Even if you have not yet upgraded to DMX 2004, we recommend that you use the
new version of the OSControl Xtra, as this includes new bug fixes.

James
