AW: Lingo to control two computers simultaneously???

2004-08-17 Thread Michael von Aichberger
> The Multi-user xtra is the way this is generally done.

I agree to that. I have done this before with 6 computers running a
presentation similar to yours simultaneously on 6 screens. I also think that
there is no better way to do it. I just want to "warn" you:

The accuracy of this kind of synchronization is fair but not perfect. Good
enough for most applications but in our case, it presented a major problem.
We had split lingo animations, projected in softedge (screens partly
overlapping) and what we were looking for was an accuracy of about one video
frame (1/30 sec.). Before you try that yourself: THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. Not
repeatedly that is. Most transitions were of about 1 to 3 frames accurate,
but some delays were up to 5 frames. (1/5 sec). Which was noticeable in our
application. We tried the UDP protocol instead TCP/IP, we tried a different
approach with the serial interface using the excellent serial Xtra from
DirectXtras, but it still was impossible to synchronize the machines better
than that. I even think that the delays are Director's fault, not or not
only caused by the MUI communication. Director is simply not made for this.

If you find a way, TELL ME, until then I advise you to use the Multi User
Protocol, but see to it that your animations are not too demanding in terms
of synchronization.

Good luck!
Michael

RE: Scaling swf member?

2004-08-17 Thread KLGC Studio
Scaling swf member?
MX04 on WinXP.
I’m trying to do a little random animation bit with vector graphics
(swf) content. That is, there are six basic vector graphics members that
get swapped, rotated and scaled randomly in a single sprite. I created
the six members in AI and exported them to single frame (static) swf
files, then imported the six swf files into Director as static Flash
members. I used AI because each vector graphics “image” was more than
could be accomplished in the vector shape editor panel.
No problem with the swapping and rotating, but the scaling results in a
cropped “image” (scaling ranges from 0 to 200 percent). I’ve tried
various combinations of “scaleMode” with alternately “scale” and
“viewScale” set to the desired floating point scale percentage without
success.
Must I keep guessing at the magic formula :) or will one of you clue me in?
Thank you,
Lee C

Re: Lingo to control two computers simultaneously???

2004-08-17 Thread Mike Cash

All,
I have a HUGE project that requires two computers to be controlled at the
exact same time (specs below). In short, each computer will run a separate
presentation. When the presenter is ready to continue he/she hits the
button (presentation switch/mouse/some kind of I/O device) and both
computers must change at the same time.

The total presentation will consist of 6 hrs. of mpeg2 and multiple film
loops (per computer). I've already worked out the mpeg2 playback and the
non-stop motion backgrounds (filmloops), the biggest problem I'm running
into is how to control both computers at the same time.

Initial thought was one USB (switch i.e. mouse) fed into each computer. I
was informed that USB wouldn't work that way and there are no USB splitters
that are made to be used that way.

What I'm stuck on now is an Infrared Presentation Switch...two of the same
model using a receiver at each computer and only one of the switches.

My question is, is there a way to do this via Lingo instead (i.e. one
presentation switch controlling one computer and Lingo feeding a command to
the second computer via Ethernet/USB or something)?

Specs:
Computers: 3.0 Ghz Processor / 2Gb ram / WinXP Pro
Software: DirMX

Any and all ideas are extremely welcome.

TIA
Mike

Shockwave Player Public Beta 10.0.2 Available

2004-08-17 Thread Emmy Huang
Developers,

Today Macromedia posted a public-beta of the latest version of the Shockwave
Player, which is versioned as 10.0.2. This update release contains a few
changes that will be of distinct interest to both developers and Shockwave
end users.

Bug Fixes

The public-beta release of the Shockwave Player contains a number of key bug
fixes to the currently shipping 10.0.1 version.

Reduced Installation Dialogs

The public-beta release also improves the installation experience by
eliminating two dialogs during player installation on Windows. The two
dialogs removed are the initial welcome and final completion dialogs.

Changes to the Default Set of Xtras

The default set of Xtras installed with the Shockwave Player has been
reduced to a minimum, and has resulted in an installer that is approximately
2MB smaller than the currently shipping web installer. The auto-downloading
functionality has also been updated to ensure proper playback of existing
content. Please report any issues found with existing sites and content
through the feedback email form found on the beta download page.

Updated Version of the Yahoo! Toolbar

The Yahoo! Toolbar installed with Shockwave has been updated, but the user
experience during installation remains the same.

We will be preparing more complete documentation about these changes in the
coming days that includes documenting what bugs are fixed in the public-beta
release as well as how the changes to the default set of Xtras will or will
not impact Shockwave content developers. For now I have included below a
summary of the Xtra changes and what you need to do as a result of these
changes. This information will be written-up in more detail and posted as a
Tech Note in the Director Support Center
(http://www.macromedia.com/support/director) in the next few days.

Finally, we would like to mention that when we release this updated version
of the Shockwave Player in its final form, we will also be releasing an
updater for Director authoring so that both the player and authoring
environment will be equivalent build versions. We do not have a specific
release date to share at this time. Please stay tuned for official
announcements in the coming weeks that will indicate when you can expect the
final update release to be made available.

Please test the new player today:

: Changes to the Default Set of Xtras in Shockwave Player Beta 10.0.2 :

The public-beta release of the Shockwave Player version 10.0.2 includes
significant changes to the default set of Xtras included in the installer as
well as changes to the way in which the core player handles the
auto-download and installation of needed Xtras at run-time. While these
changes are a break from previous versions of the Shockwave installer, steps
have been taken to ensure that previously authored content continues to play
as expected.

The default set of Xtras has now been reduced to a core set of Xtras needed
in order for the player to minimally operate. The Xtras included in the new
"slim" Shockwave Player installer by default are CBrowser, InetURL, NetFile
and NetLingo. No other Xtras are included in the "slim" installer by
default. As a result, the total installer size has dropped by approximately
2Mb. Simply removing Xtras from the default set would likely result in a lot
of broken content, in addition we had some thoughts (ours plus those of
developers) as to how Xtras downloading might be improved, therefore we made
some changes to the way the core player handles Xtra downloading.

In player releases prior to 10.0.2, an Xtra would only auto-download and
install if it was in the movie's Xtra list _and_ it was specifically marked
as "Download if Needed". Both were required as the movie was "branded" with
the Xtra's download URL at the time the developer checked the "Download if
Needed" option. If you didn't check that box then the URL wasn't branded
into the movie and auto-downloading would not occur. In the new beta player,
version 10.0.2, the package download URL's for Macromedia Xtras are now
located within the player itself. Therefore, if a movie loads and requires
an Xtra found in its Xtra list, the player will auto-download and install
the Xtra even if the Xtra in question wasn't marked for auto-download by the
developer.

This change has in essence made auto-downloading and installing of
Macromedia Xtras on by default for all Xtras found in a given movie's Xtra
list. We feel that this change to the player's default Xtra set, combined
with the change to the way in which Xtras auto-downloading occurs will
result in an improved user experience during player installation and usage,
without breaking existing content. All that comes with the previously
mentioned special caveat: Xtras must be in the movie's Xtra list or they
won't be auto-downloaded. For media Xtras this is typically not a problem as
the

I can't confirm that. With both PropSave and vList, I've always used

seem as complicated as when you write it all out like that. ;-)

AW: AW: propsave Xtra and images

2004-08-17 Thread Michael von Aichberger
Well, I have seen the pimu.com page and seen that the picture type is
supported. What I didn't know until now is that #picture and #image are
different things.

The problem now seems to be that plain image objects which do not reside in
a bitmap cast member cannot be saved with propsave.

In my case I have plenty of image objects together with other data in a very
large list. With propsave I thought it would be very convenient to save the
whole list to a file and retrieve it from there. Now it seems that before
storing my images in the list I have to convert then to the #picture type by
creating a bitmap castmember, assigning the image to it, retrieving its
#picture type, placing it in the list, then saving this list with propsave.
BUT: Whenever I want to use an image from the list, I cannot do so
directly, as imaging lingo seems not to work with "pictures". So before
copypixeling something, I will again have to create a bitmap cast member,
assign the #picture from the list, and then get the #image of it for further
treatment.

Kind of complicated, or did I miss something? In case this is the way to go
with propsave, can anyone confirm, that vlist can save lists with pure image
objects in it?

Thanks again for your help

Michael

The only option I am aware of involves quicktime and the soerensen 3 compressor which
can embed a 'media key' in the video, and without that key the video cannot be played

viewing it outside your application.
