lingo-l How can I speed up between shows?

2001-08-15 Thread Fred Westermeyer

Hi List,

I have a project that runs all on buttons and made in D7(Windows). How do I make it
run faster?

1. Does Dir files run better, faster or the same as Dxr files?
2. Is the size of the sprite span better at the default 28 or should I change them to
7 since its all buttons?
3. Should I update to Director 8 or stay at Director 7? Is 8 fast or does it have
something in it that will help made it run faster?
4. Or is there something I am missing or forgot to?

Fred,

You could use something like the WebXtra and keep control of the user
that way. This would eliminate an area for them to physically type in a
URL. However, if you have created a button to a webpage that has
external links on it, your problem will not be solved.

I would create an icon bar or menuitem with all the links of the pages
you are looking to hook up to. Use the webXtra to take it from there!

Hope this helps,

people go to site that are not on the list, some sites are not for

the person is done doing what they need to do they can only come back to

You may need to send a keycode to the text member. Or track where the
"cursor" is and delete the char before that one. I remember a discussion a
year or 2 ago that resulted in somebody posting an example movie. Hang on . . .

. . . Found it. Odd, though. Now-a-days it seems to enter the letters in
reverse order and the backspace key doesn't work either. Later today I'll
check it out with D7 rather than D8 Shockwave see if it works as it used
to. Sorry, this may not help as much as I'd hoped. Look for Touch typing here:

lingo-l Sending Text

2001-01-11 Thread Fred Westermeyer

Hi list,

I have two thing to do and the part of the project is done.

1. Backspace on a touch screen

2. Send what is type on the touch screen to someone pager. We use FilePage Wireless
office software here at the casino. I need to know the best way to send a text file to
a page. I was thinking of postNetText or sendcastmember? This may be wrong?? I will
send my project (*.dir file) to someone that can help me to see what I am doing. There
is a better way to do this but I can not think of it.

When the guest type on the screen, Press the Send button and it goes to FilePage and
FilePage will send it to the person. What the guest typed in is store in a cast
member. I would like to send that cast member to the FilePage. How do I send this cast
member to the FilePage.

Red-dot means Break Point, it works with the Debbugger and helps tracing
your code. Try runing your movie or calling the script where the red-dot
appeared and when Director tries to run it, the Debbugger window will pop
up.

lingo-l Looking for information

2000-12-15 Thread Fred Westermeyer

I am finishing up a project that is a touch screen information center here at the
casino. I did it in D7.02 windows. My boss would like to add a new section to it, he
would like are guest to able to call someone here at the casino, all number will be
in-house and four number. What he would like is to have are guest press a button with
the name of the host on it, then a list of message will come up and the guest will
pick the message that he or she would like to send and press that message (button)
then computer (program) will call the host up and give them the message.

or can the guest type in the message on the screen and then send the message to the
host?

If they can type in there message I will have to make a keyboard on the screen. I
think the premade messages will be faster and easier to do.

so how do I program director to dial a number? and send a message to someone beeper
or pager?

New thing just asked, when the guest press the send button and the program sends the
message to the host, can it send a copy of the message, the host name, number, date
and time to someone here on property via e-mail?

Re: lingo-l Killing de Kursor

2000-11-17 Thread Fred Westermeyer

Good morning,

I have a program that runs on 4 touchscreen kiosks, The software for the monitor has a
option to turn off the cursor. I don't use cursor 200 in my program at all. I use
TouchWare Drivers and Utilities, its supports Windows, MS-Dos, OS/2 and Macintosh. I
find it on the internet. If you need help e-mail me here or call.

Hi gang,

Our Technical Manager keeps bugging me with a question, so I thought I'd bug
you guys in turn.
Most of our work here is with assorted touchscreen kiosks and assorted
projections for Museums, so we use "cursor 200" to hide the cursor. If
director goes to another movie, the cursor appears again, so we use cursor
200 on the prepareMovie of each. So far, so good.

The trouble is, that some museum curators have complained about the brief
appearance of the cursor between movies, (after it leaves the first movie
and before the cursor is disappeared by the next prepareMovie) so I'm
supposed to make sure now that the offending cursor is truly dead.

Setting the cursor in windows to a blank or a small dot is not an option -
we tried that once before, and it was hell to do anything in windows (and 5
times as bad to talk a computer illiterate curator through it on the
phone... can you imagine?)

Some ways I can think of, include:
* Playing all the movies as MIAWS (I'm a bit worried about how stable that
might be)
* Importing or linking them to a main movie
* Possibly have an object with cursor 200 on stepMovie (I don't know if that
would work any better than a prepareMovie)
* Make the hourglass into a blank
* Use an Xtra, if one exists (I know you can use DirectOS or Buddy API to
control the cursor, but can you permanently hide it with one of them, or
another one. Got DirectOS, don't have Buddy, but can probably buy if really
necessary)

But I don't know if any of those solutions are any good, or if there's a
better way of doing it.
The best thing for me would be if I could run the movies the usual way (ie,
unconnected to each other) and just have something that kills the cursor
completely and restores it when quitting the projector. Knowing the
designers here, anything even remotely complicated would be asking for
trouble...

Has anyone come across that problem before, and/or know of the best
solution?

You can program rollovers and finger. I have it working here at the casino. In fact I
had to take the finger out but still have the rollover on all my buttons. I have 368
buttons in one program. On the slots we use rollovers on them, but no finger.

I once worked on a touch screen kiosk and was asked why
 there weren't any button rollovers?

As a matter of fact, I saw a kiosk about four years ago that could sense
a finger before it touched the screen, at a distance adjustable via
software. Of course there wouldn't be much of a distance range, but this
was awile back, and I'd expect that some can do this.

Did you check that the resource exists?, maybe you imported the gif linked
to an external file but when you change the location of your file the path
gets lost.
