I'd go with the big guns, DirectMedia. why not? just build the cost into the project. For a consumer title...? I have had good experiences with Direct Media Xtra. I have used it without incident. Yeah, I'm not worried about the cost (hell it's $50 dif anyway) - just more about compatibility. Personally I'd go for quicktime (it's only mpg1) but it was the client's call: no quicktime.
