But ASIC *does* send out genuine reminders. Always do as Tom did - go
check the business name manually. Don't use the links.

It would be nice if entities like ASIC would get the message that they
should not send out live links.

Regards, K.

There are massive numbers of these. If you look carefully you will usually
find a dodgy sharepoint.com link in them.

[LINK] Spammy looking email from ASIC

2017-09-22 Thread Tom Worthington
I found the appended email in my Spam folder: surely this could not be a
real email from the Government?

It starts "Dear", has much of the subject line in capitals, threatens
cancellation and has an attached legal letter: all indications of Spam.

Just to check I went to the ASIC website and looked up my business
registration. To my surprise I did find it was due, so presumably the
email was genuine.

I wonder how many business registrations get canceled because the
recipient thought the email was fake and how many scams are perpetrated
because ASIC writes emails which look fake.

ps: Apart from that, the ASIC business name registration process works
well on-line and $82 for a three year renewal looks like value for
money. Three more years of pumping out those blog posts with ads on
them, at http://blog.highereducationwhisperer.com/ ;-)
