Re: z/Linux cloning
I would be interested in either of these approaches. I did reply to Robert Nix offlist, but haven't heard back...so assume that he is not in the office currently. I can also share details with any interested parties. FCP LUN Access Control List
Hi guys, Where can I have access to a sample of LUN Access Control List file for SLES10? My problem is, when another VM Guest try to access the same LUN (for Oracle RAC, for instance) I get this error: zfcp: FCP-LUN 0x40104000 at the remote port with WWPN 0x500507630e040cef connected to the adapter 0.0.1a01 is already in use in LPAR2, CSS0 *If I shutdown the first guest, the second one have access to the LUN. z9 BC - z/VM 5.3 - SLES10 Thanks very much. Re: FCP LUN Access Control List
I can send you a sample LUN Access Control file but it won't solve your problem if you're attempting concurrent rw access from 2 guests to same LUN. LUN Access Control utility supports 'rw_serial_mode' (serial read-write access to a LUN) not concurrent rw. For non-NPIV setup, if you have multiple FCP chpids connected thru the SAN to the LUN, you could set it up to have guest1 use different chpid(s) than guest2 and get concurrent rw access. Your z9 supports NPIV and that will let guest1 and guest2 share an FCP chpid to get conncurrent rw access to a LUN, if fabric zoning and LUN masking permits it. Through virtualization, you can take advantage of the efficient, robust System zTM technology across your enterprise - and significantly reduce costs. When you run Linux as a guest of z/VM, the power and resources of the mainframe are utilized as needed, so you don't have to purchase and maintain separate dedicated hardware for each Linux server. Instead, hundreds of instances can run on just one z/VM host. With automated instance management, a non-Linux or non-z/VM expert can easily create, configure, and maintain many virtual Linux instances under z/VM. You will also experience benefits such as: * Reduce power and management costs by eliminating physical footprints * Eliminate errors with accurate configuration of Linux instances * Centrally view and manage all Linux instances * Provide efficient and automated resource utilization Colleen Gordon Mainstar Software Corporation [EMAIL PROTECTED]mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 425-241-9055 www.mainstar.com -- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
Managing multiple LPARs
Hi, We are planning on using CA's VM:Operator and its message routing via RSCS to manage six VM LPARs, several of them running zLinux. What are other sites doing, please?
