Re: Name of LINUX guest

2010-03-22 Thread Rich Smrcina

Changing the virtual machine name in the directory and rebooting will
not 'change' anything. The virtual machine needs to be logged off and
logged back on.

Additionally, the virtual machine name is not necessarily related to the
hostname.

Seems to me like you want to look into some XDR/GDPS features.

As far as I know, there is no simple way to break the DS8k mirror,
configure the z/VM guest and then ipl the guest from the right address.

Thanks for the response, but Rogério's recommendation of: echo LINUXORA

Followed by a reboot resolved my problems. And Yes I changed the changed the

Actually, you can do just that. Put both sets of WWPNs in the configuration

FCP, NPIV, D/R, oh my...

2010-03-22 Thread Brian France

We have two z9 frames and 2 ds8300 in separate bldgs. In one bldg is our
test VM/MFL and the other our prod. We mirror the dasd in our prod bldg
back to our test. Is there a how to doc for setting up a MainFrameLinux
image ahead of time to failover to the mirrored copy? Or for that
matter, if one knew the ds8300 prod server was coming down, how does
one set up the MFL images to find the mirror? It sure appears to me as
tho you can not specify "extra" wwpns to a chpid.

Re: Boot from FCP on vintage hardware

2010-03-22 Thread Moeur Tim C
I did try that but with no success. I'm pretty certain that the root
cause is the absence of the 'Boot from FCP' feature on my z890, as the
regulars here have suggested. As I say, the most telling clue is the
instant drop into a CP program interrupt. I went so far as to code up
bad zipl.conf and zfcp.conf info on my working z10 to see how that
compared to the failing z890. On the z10 side, the IPL starts and runs
for 20 seconds or so with normal startup messages before it finally
drops into a kernel panic because of my purposely sabotaged zfcp info.
The z890 halts the instant I enter 'IPL'.

Thanks all, I'll use this info to help make my bosses aware of the fact
the z890 is due for an upgrade.

Tim

Maybe you have to specifically enter a boot option number with the SET
LOADDEV command? This was sometimes needed to make the selection for
the
boot menu, ex:

Ready; T=0.01/0.01 16:15:29
set loaddev bootprog 2
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 16:16:40
q loaddev
PORTNAME 50050763 00C1AFC4LUN 5734 BOOTPROG 2
BR_LBA

This would try to boot what would have been option 2 on the boot menu.

Re: Pure-FTP & uploadd-script

2010-03-22 Thread Sebastian Korte
Frank,

which distribution do you use? For example, SuSE Linux Enterprise
Server for zSeries provides pure-ftpd from scratch.
