Ugh - now I remember why the various streams have so much trouble getting volunteers for chairs. It's not just that we are a bunch of lazy bums - it'd a *real* problem trying to work out which sessions one can actually attend. And things might move - or I might change my mind ... I know it's harder for the organisers than it is for us, but it's still not easy. If I ever work out what I'm going to in this stream, I'll be in touch. A call to chair sessions at SHARE
Hi All, It is that time of year again this is a call to chair SHARE session. History In 1955, just two years after the release of IBM's first computer, a handful of the earliest IT professionals collaborated to form SHARE. Thus came into being the world's first organization of computing professionals. Over the past five decades, SHARE has become synonymous with high-quality, user-driven education and resources to make enterprise computing specialists more effective professionals. SHARE serves more than 20,000 individuals representing over 2,000 of IBM's top enterprise computing customers. Our constituency includes many of the top international corporations (including the majority of the FORTUNE 500), universities and colleges, municipal through federal government organizations, and industry-leading consultants. While independent, SHARE maintains a close partnership with IBM and its subsidiaries, as well as with leading solution providers to continually strengthen SHARE's benefits for its members. Our Mission To enable people in Information Technology environments to achieve business results. Our Vision We will be an indispensable partner with our members and IBM - the community where users and technology meet to shape the future of Information Technology. The Value of SHARE Membership Participation in SHARE provides the opportunity to build relationships with a diverse community of IT professionals, enhances your professional development, and positions you as a thought leader in the industry idSession Title Date and Time DayPeople 13518Linux for Beginners Hands-on Lab Part 1 of 3 2013-08-12, 09:30:00 Monday Neale Ferguson (Speaker) 13506z/VM Platform Update & Linux and VM Program Opening 2013-08-12, 09:30:00 MondayAlan Altmark (Speaker), Rick Barlow (Speaker) 13387Mz - A New Open Source Systems Management Package 2013-08-12, 09:30:00 MondayMichael D. And for "external facing" or "cloud" guests, it's important to NOT have the toolchain available. You probably wouldn't want to have smaclient on an external facing or cloud guest either. We simply have a local build machine where we build stuff and then push the binaries out to the guests that need them. Prebuilding smiucv "should" be possible. I just wouldn't want to get into having to support multiple versions for multiple distros. Fortunately, it's about as basic an app can be, so it should be able to be built once and run everywhere. That recommendation is for garden-variety Ethernet where 8K jumbo frames are the max supported. Hipersockets != Ethernet. 56K MTU works nicely. > 6. The IBM z/os TCP/IP support says that the MTU size could be forced to 8k. > Anyone have any experience in forcing an MTU to 8k like this? Any > unwelcome side effects? It's going to increase the CPU utilization of the TCP stacks substantially since the stack has to do more fragmentation/reassembly. -- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@vm.marist.edu with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 -- For more information on Linux on System z, visit http://wiki.linuxvm.org/
