I took your suggestion and those error messages are gone as i figured they
would be.

Howeverf, I still can't bring them online.

Try:
cio_ignore -R
and then chccwdev.  If that fixes it, then use "yast bootloader" to remove the 
cio_ignore parameter from the kernel parms.
