Download the tape manager code we wrote for Linux and VM. It's intended
to deal with this problem.

Linux has no concept of tape labels. It does not understand or process
them unless you have a copy of the 'ansitape' utility.

No, you don't need to write labels on the tapes. The library only
recognizes the barcoded label on the outside of the tape.

Hi!

We are planning to use our 3494 tape library (with 3590 drives) from
Linux/390. It's a pity that IBM made only OCO drivers..and it doesn't
supports media changing... so the library manager is going to be network
attached (soon).

Do I have to write standard IBM label on the tapes?

Thanks:

István

Tape Library

2005-04-11 Thread Istvan Nemeth
Hi!

We are planning to use our 3494 tape library (with 3590 drives) from
Linux/390. It's a pity that IBM made only OCO drivers..and it doesn't
supports media changing... so the library manager is going to be network
attached (soon).

Do I have to write standard IBM label on the tapes?

3494 tape library with linux on z800

2004-03-10 Thread István Németh
Hi!

Does someone know how to access the 3494 tape library from a linux running on a z800??
I've read many docs, but I didn't get a clear answer.

I can access the tape drive (3590) with OCO modules, but I cannot ask for a tape...

Does it works trough FICON channel (as with zOS?), or only with network connection?
What (hardware) do I need for this (LAN Host card??)?

Does someone has some experiences about this?

thx

Istvan
