[LAD] transfer function visualisation

2007-05-26 Thread Andrew Gaydenko
Hi!

Is there some kind of JACK-ready tool to draw a transfer function (db/db)
of a given chain (last one is something having JACK input and output ports)?
Of course, such tool's opportunity to change a frequency of excitation is my
main dream :-)

Ehm ... no?

And btw transfer functions are only for LTI systems, so such a tool wont work
with arbitrary JACK chains. Or do you just want to use it for chains of
simple filters and effects? Ah, and such a tool has to be connected to both
ends of the chain, to be able to send an impulse through the chain.

great - thanks for the list! - I could not find URLs or a

Christian,

You are right, I'm just interested in what does this or that filter/effect do
(limiters,
compressors, tube-nizers and so on - both software and hardware). Of course,
I see,
say, attack/release times may be beyond such simple db/db viewer. At any case
pseudo-static mode is interesting also. I imagine such viewer having (besides
of
excitation frequency control) 'min level', 'max level' and 'excitation time'
controls.
Last one may be rather long (say, up to 20-60 sec).

I'm not sure the purchase requirement is correct vis a vis GPL -- But
regardless, I've found the source:

Understood--of course.

Two 32-bit ints can represent (the non-integer part of) most (not all)
irrational values to better precision than a double. The algo to find
them is a bit mysterious but very simple. Simple example: 355/113 is
equal to pi with a relative error of less than 1e-7, not bad for two
3-digit numbers. It's not difficult to find two 32-bit ints that would
  be better than a double.

So, what's the verdict on this?

Don't want to fall into the perpetual beta with known issue trap, I'd
like to fix the sample rate issue and crank out another beta ASAP..

I'm skeptical we'd ever actually see a plugin that would use rational
sample rate, so I vote double unless:

- rational is required for perfect video sync over long time frames

- someone can provide a concrete example of a realistic plugin that
would require/benefit from rational

But the UA-25 is not exactly small, it's rather huge.

This isn't exactly small, but it's pretty cool. I just got a Zoom H4, which
is a 2 track handheld recorder. In both live audio and hard drive mode over
usb it works perfectly with linux, jack, and ardour. Alternatively to it's
built in mics, it can power 48v mics. I hooked up some NT5s to it, worked
great. It can record on its own for hours and hours to an internal SD card
as well.

So far, I'm tickled pink with it.
