Hallo!

Ok, i think that is the problem. But where can i find the teletext PID? I
only found in the list the V-PID und A-PID on the internet pages.

Peter

 Teletext (in Germany called 'Videotext') is broadcast on a separate
 packet identifier (PID) within the DVB multiplex stream. When switching
 to a programme you need to set the audio, video and teletext PID. If you
 do not set the latter PID you will not get teletext reinserted into the
 vertical blanking area of the composite video signal.
 When using VDR make sure your channels.conf has got an extra column for
 the TT-PID according to the description in FORMATS:

Hi,

try to use dtv_scan from the DTV-1.1.1 package...If you are using the
'--vdrfile filename'-switch a VDR compliant channels.conf is generated
including all present teletext PIDs...

I guess they didn't update their output to the latest VDR channels.conf format.
So the '1' you are observing is most likely the 'Ca' parameter.

  extract_ac3 any.vob file. The ac3dec tool stopps with a core dump if i

  the stream data (2.0 Mode 48.0 KHz 448kbps) then stops w/o playing.

 As far as I can see VDR extracts all packets delivered by the driver under
 the dolby digital PID and sends them to the command defined by the -a
 option. VDR does not do any additional conversion or manipulation with
 these packets, so if any such measures are necessary, somebody will have
to
 tell me what that would be.

  The play-ac3 tool generates true AC3 sound (i have tested it with an ac3
  test file DD5.1). By that way - whats the Pid for Cinedome Deluxe, on
  this channel Premiere sends also DD5.1 sound (if i order a movie, i can
  try it).

Good to hear - did you anything special to get it working?
For me it reports:
SNDCTL_DSP_SETFMT failed.

BTW, there is another one for alsa:
ac3spdif which should work like that (from it's README):

vdr -a ac3spdif | aplay -f dat -f s16_be

It does something with the package headers, maybe that is what you look for

The frontend device supports the FE_READ_SIGNAL_STRENGTH,
FE_READ_SNR and FE_READ_BER ioctls to determine the
signal strength, signal/noise ratio and bit error rate.

See http://www.linuxtv.org/developer/dvb_api/frontend.xml
for more info.

However, some scaling factors have not yet been determined
for the Siemens DVB cards, so the values returned by this
ioctls are somehow wrong...

Also note that SNR and BER are valid only when the frontend is locked.

 Hi,

 Nice but is that both ways or oneway ?

Currently, most of these services require a normal internet
connection for the uplink and only provide you with a downlink
via the satellite.

So, with ISDN and Starspeeder you wil have an upload speed
of 64kb/s and a download speed of up to 400 kb/s.

 EON will download at 2mb from their ftp site.
 EON at 400kbs is an ave figure based on next to no
 useage from other users (ie you share the network)

As I said in my first mail in this thread, when I tried
EON about a year ago, it was very unreliable and often
slower than 64kb/s.

 Starspeeder mention that they on ave have 400kbs but that is
 not a Service Level Gnt.

I guess you cannot guarantee it, unless you allow only
20 users per 8Mb/s transponder.
The question is: how many users per transponder DO they allow?
I would find any number 125 acceptable, because that would
still give us better than ISDN performance in the worst case.

Carsten.

 The question is I think neither service offer a true upload and download
 400kbs SLG.

 But I could be wrong.

 Matt

Fine is that it has error detection for ac3 frames (skippes them).

Hello,

 Hello there,

 I got an offer for a graphical LCD-display I would like to use for my VDR.
 As I do not have www-access right now, maybe someone could have a look at
 the specs and crosscheck with LCDProc.

Last week I got the same offer too. Some month ago this display was also
a special offer at Pollin. I think it will be very hard to get the hands
on such a module. Last time I had no luck. But I found a 40x2 module in
a scrapbox at work :-)

As allready mentioned you would have to adapt the LCD-Modul for the use
with vdr. Either you program your own controller in hardware (e.g. using
an Atmel AVR) or you have to adapt the controlling software in vdr.
I think both option need quite a lot of time.

 Could that be the PES header !?

I guess so. VDR just forwards the complete PES packets delivered through
the Dolby Digital PID. If VDR should strip the PES header, this can of
course
be done, but I have no way of testing this nor do I know anything about
this.
Besides, the PES header contains the PTS (Presentation Time Stamp) - would
that
be missing when replaying the Dolby Digital sound?

[linux-dvb] driver 0.8.2: error with insmod

2001-06-25 Thread Andrea Malesan

Hi everyone I have just joined this mailing list hope to find here some
help... I'm trying to make my dvb card working on my Debian linux-box.
I got the sources from LinuxTv, driver ver. 0.8.2 cause the kernel is ver.
2.2.19pre17.
All seems to run quite smoothly when I do make in the directory
DVB/drivers (some warnings but don't think this could be the problem), till
when I try to install the driver typing make insmod. It gives me an error
 saying:

i2c-core.o: i2c core module

I've been trying for hours with ALL driver versions, from 0.03 to 0.8.2 but
nothing, make insmod always gives me an error :((( (I only posted the
0.8.2 insmod error)

Thank You in advance for the help.

Locate function cReplayBuffer::StripAudioPackets() in dvbapi.c and make the
following change to strip the PES headers:

   case 0xBD: // dolby
if (Except  dolbyDev) {
---int written = 0;
+++int written = b[i + 8] + 9;
   int n = l;
   while (n  0) {
 int w = fwrite(b[i + written], 1, n, dolbyDev);
 if (w  0) {
LOG_ERROR;
break;
}
 n -= w;
 written += w;
 }
   }
// continue with deleting the data - otherwise it disturbs DVB replay

I hope I've got it right, haven't tested it...

Stefan Huelswitt wrote:

 Why does VDR overwrites the epg.data file on startup rather than
 parsing its contents and working with it?

 I have only one card and it's a hassel to scan all the channels
 again when restarting VDR due to a driver hangup.

That's still to come - currently AC3 has higher priority ;-)

 Yes, the error was in front of the computer. In fact I copied the lines
 with the multiple APIDs into my channels.conf and didn't change the CA
 entry. That's why all the other lines worked.

 But why could I watch encryted channels at all when the CA entry is wrong?
 Strange.

The 'Ca' parameter is only necessary when recording, because then VDR has to
select the card that can actually decrypt that channel. It is also used
when your CAM is not attached to your Primary Interface (i.e. the one
you use to actually watch the programme). VDR then transfers the data
from the card that can decrypt the channel to the card that shall display
it. Of course, if you have only one card, that parameter is meaningless.
I guess I should just make VDR ignore it in that case...

Are you sure that the kernel tree and config is identical to the kernel
you are running?

I guess you would be on the safe side to first compile a new kernel. I
haven't looked at the Makefile for the DVB driver, but it's a safe bet to
extract it to /usr/src/linux or make a symlink with that name to the
actual source tree.

If the sources there and the used config are not identical to the
installed kernel then it won't work.

After running the new kernel make clean the driver source and then try
compiling it again. Hopefully it should work then.

cu,
Lars

[linux-dvb] Tuning problems : a solution ?

2001-06-25 Thread Jean-Claude REPETTO

Since Klaus Schmidinger has released its test file
 ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/people/kls/ctest.c ) , I have noticed that the
tuning routines do not work correctly with my installation. Very often, I
get a channel not sync'ed! error,
and subsequent channel switchings fail , too, until at some point it
suddenly works again.

I have exactly the same problems with dtv_scan, from Rolf Hakenes.

It is not surprising, since the tuning routines are exactly the same.

I have been investigating this problem during the last days, and I have
found a solution that solves my problem.
I don't know if it will solve all the tuning problems people reported.

The LO frequencies of the LNBs are not very accurate. Sometimes, there is an
offset of several MHz. This offset may vary with the temperature. I have
found that offsetting the LO frequencies in ctest and dtv_scan (for example
10607 MHz and 9757 MHz for my LNB, instead of 10600 and 9750) works fine.

I have runned several times ctest and dtv_scan, and I've got very few
errors. I have been able to complete dtv_scan, although it was impossible
before.

I hope it will be useful to some people.

Jean-Claude
