[linux-dvb] HVR-950 status

2008-01-01 Thread Devin Heitmueller
Hello,

Could somebody please give me a quick status of where they believe the
HVR-950 is at in terms of support in the mainline? Video appears to
work for analog (once the xc3028 firmware is loaded), as well as
channel tuning, although there is no audio at all. Also no ATSC
support since we don't have multiproto support yet in the mainline (no
/dev/dvb device appearing).

If anyone else out there is working with the HVR-950, could you please
confirm that audio is not working? I just want to be sure that this
isn't something specific to my environment.

Thanks,

Manu,

where do you have your mission from?

As far as I can see, _excactly Nobody_ asked you to do it.

If you have a GO for this by Linus and Andrew, and that I seriuously
doubt, I stay away for ever ...

Any chance of a fix in the near future? Alternatively, could you
suggest another CI card with a less problematic driver?

Any progress? Your Udev thought sounds reasonable ... maybe check with
the Mythbuntu folks to see what they say.

Did you try as root or just user? I'm wondering if there is some sort of
bizarre user permission bug occurring.

Thanks Jay, it is indeed helpful. I've created a wiki entry for the card
here: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Leadtek_WinFast_HDTV_Cinema
Could you please scan it for any errors (eg. I made the lspci output up,
basing it upon what I believe it should look like).

If you have a camera and could upload a/some image(s) of the device to
the page, then that would be great too.

And even further, if you would like to submit a patch to get the card
automagically recognized & configured and have this submitted to the
kernel, then that would also be great too ... you need to patch (from
http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/file/tip/linux/drivers/media/video/saa7134/)
saa7134-cards.c and saa7134-dvb.c with the appropriate definitions ...
use the KWorld ATSC 110 as a guide.

The 18pin remote control IC you've identified is likely an Atmel
AT8P56S. In regards to this chip, I've cc'ed Dwaine Garden and Henry
Wong in on the message, as hopefully that identification may help with
their earlier work on remote control support for the KWorld card (and on
an MSI board too IIRC) ... Dwaine and Henry, to get you up to speed, the
background message is
http://marc.info/?l=linux-dvb&m=119747668120799&w=2, which is then
followed up by Jay's message that I have included inline above.

I also cc'ed in John, the thread originator, as he may still be
interested in the card.

Cheers

anyway you have to use more option for szap2

 -e: fec (1=1/2, 2=2/3, 3=3/4, 4=4/5, 5=5/6, 6=6/7, 8=8/9, 0=AUTO)

yes, Afatech AF9013 DVB-T demodulator. There is AF9013 driver module
already, but most likely I will not work without some changes. It is
currently working only when AF9015 chip is used; AF9015 has integrated

Hi!

I don't know if I succeeded sending the mail below earlier so I send it again..

I have also been trying almost every patch available on the net today without
any good result. I have also downloaded the firmware again and I have checked
my channels.conf against
en.kingofsat.net/hdtv.php

If I'm using the patch from 2007-12-15 to enable HVR4000 support in the
multiproto tree, which szap should I use to be able to szap to DVB-S2 channels?
Maybe I'm using a szap that can't tune to
DVB-S2-channels?
I don't know if it matters anymore, but my HD channels are on my second port on
my Diseqc.

[linux-dvb] Nova-T 500 Issue

2008-01-01 Thread Paul Elliott
Hello all,

I have a Nova-T 500 PCI card that I'm having some issues with. I've
compiled the latest kernel modules as directed on the wiki page
without issue. The card appears to work for a while and then 'loses'
one of the tuners. All recordings on it fail, nothing is reported in
dmesg though. Is this the USB disconnect issue that others have seen?

I don't have a date, but the chip manufacturer as well as everybody involved is
under
pressure, due to the large usage of the chip by different peripheral
manufacturers.
It has to come out soon, looking at the list of supported device configurations
by now,
nothing less than 33 configurations documented list as i have now, just PC
based
configurations alone, CE equipments excluded.

The current state of testing is that, one needs to understand the chip
internals and
the testing happens in the Labs alone (lot of undocumented things in there,
documentation being really crap), with some basic tests we have going on. As
soon
as it get's past this stage, there is something for users to test.

I have redone the driver a few times by now, trying to handle the different
aspects.
There have been some discussions on this ML also, on the same a while back.

Manu

Maybe I could help with testing and reporting bugs ?
As I can see it would be probably useless to try hacking any code for
this device myself.

There is a OSS driver upcoming, supported by the chip manufacturer themselves
(AFA Technologies.) I have been a bit involved in that process.

Currently it is tested on some few devices only and is not a generic driver as
it is
(due to the complexities involved in the various configurations of the device,
Single USB, Dual USB, Platform mode, PCI/PCIe based devices. even SPI is
supported
on it for some tuners -- for a Consumer Electronics product that runs Windows
CE).
The upcoming driver is meant to be usable in all these configurations, and will
be supported by them in the future as well, for newer designs. (Lot more devices
to appear, based on this chipset)

There have been some peripheral manufacturers who have been also involved in the
process such as Terratec, Azurewave, DigitalNow and Pinnacle, other than
Avermedia.
There are some 5 unbranded Chinese manufacturers too.
(I had asked the chip manufacturer about your device, for which Avermedia has 2
products based on the same, a USB based and a PCIe Dual demodulator based
device.)

The current state is that there are some tests going on in the AFA labs on the
driver
for the chip (currently, 2nd round) due to all the Hardware hacks on the chip
to handle
all these diverse configurations.

Will post details on the same, on this list as it arrives.

Regards,
Manu

Hello again. Any suggestion? In doubt I remove the DVB card, leaving
only DVB-S2.
I issued, as suggested:

modprobe stb6100
modprobe stb0899
modprobe lnbp21
modprobe budget-ci

but no /dev/dvb is present.

Now lspci -v looks like this:
04:05.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Unknown device 5b2f:1081
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 15
Memory at fddff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512]

and dmesg has only one interesting line:
saa7146: register extension 'budget_ci dvb'.

Is my card different in some way?

Thank you

[linux-dvb] Consistent kernel crash on latest hg repo with 2.6.24-rc6

2008-01-01 Thread Erik van Zijst
Hi folks,

Since I installed a TechnoTrend 1500 Budget (with optional budget-ci CAM
board), my kernel crashes completely everytime I run a frequency scan
using the w_scan utility. There's no kernel panic message or anything
printed to the tty, just instant death.

The server box (dual quadcore Xeon) ran perfectly stable until I
installed the T-1500 last week, and still runs stable as long as I don't
use the card.

I started out using a stock 2.6.22-something kernel (vanilla Fedora 8
and Ubuntu 7.10 server), then switched to 2.6.24-rc6 (generated at
2007-12-21) and finally tried today's trunk of
http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb using hg, on top of my 2.6.24-rc6 kernel.
Yet, every combination dies.

The kernel usually dies the first time "w_scan -x"
(http://wirbel.htpc-forum.de/w_scan/index2.html version 20071209) is run
and then usually dies near the end when w_scan prints "tune to:".
Occasionally it takes more than one run before it crashes. The box is
idle during the scan and there's no other PCI activity.

I'm using firmware dvb-fe-tda10046.fw, installed using get_dvb_firmware.

regards,
Erik van Zijst

It is hard... It took all day long for me to write a seek tool for detecting the
placements for the firmwares.

See --seek option at v4l2-apps/util/xc3028-firmware.

I think that dvb-utils tool recognizes L/R polarization. There are a few files
there using this, AFAIK.

Anyway, seems ok to me to replace by H/V.

OK, I've replaced the 64 bit integer by two 32 bit ints:

# Firmware 77, type: SCODE FW MONO HAS IF (0x60008000), IF = 6.68 MHz
id: PAL/DK A2 (000300e0), size: 192
#

write_le32(0x60008000); # Type
write_le64(0x0003, 0x00e0); # ID
write_le16(6680); # IF
write_le32(192);# Size
write_hunk(810936, 192);

This should work fine also on 32 bit machines. Tested here.

Cheers,
Mauro

I still get the same result.

I have a quite old firmware I think, has anything changed in it the last

Thanks for the help!
