[linux-dvb] Status of Hauppauge - HVR 4000

2007-03-30 Thread Jean Paul Gatt

I was flipping through the mailing list to try and obtain a status about the
ongoing development of support for this card ...

I noticed that there is some kind of work going on... but I was not able to
read what is exactly the state ... Can anyone point me out to more info
about ongoing development for this card?

Thank you.

The current implementation is supporting dvb-s interface. Everything in
this environment is working fine form me. The most recent improvements:
Signal strength displayed correctly,
Diseqc is working

Currently tuning to a dvb-s2 transponder doesn't work for me.

Hope that helps.

No, diseqc is only partially working.

Re: [linux-dvb] Re: [Proposal] Unification of the v4L & dvb wikis

2007-04-19 Thread Jean Paul Gatt

Add another positive!!

Whilst browsing for information through both wiki's I can't help noticing
the fragmentation of information, and the difficulty in obtaining what I
need,
especially from the hardware part of the wikis. There are too many guides
out there, sometimes containing contrasting information. I guess if the wiki
could contain some form of generic guides and templates on how to work
it would be helpful.

Also, before starting to import information as is from the two wikis to a
new
wiki, maybe a template on how the information is to be presented should
be created. This way MAYBE :) a sense of continuity across the wiki can
be applied.

Thanks for the good work!!

Just curious ... Any improvements on this card?

I have been putting off buying it for months now. Child shows potential ...

Hi again!

Im answering my own mails - thats a great way to get the answers you

I have had a little success, I can szap to DVB-S channels that's on my
first Diseqc-switch port using an old szap-channels.conf.

But I can-t get it to switch the Diseqc to the second port (I have read
here on the list both about people that got it working and those who
doesn't). I have patched the kernel module with patches from
http://dev.kewl.org/tmp/hvr4000/ and I'm using szap2 that I found there
as well ...
This is the error message I get;

zapping to 5 'Kanal 5':

Should Diseqc work? And more intresting - is there any way to use
dvbscan to get DVB-S2 channels (Thor-1.0W)? Or should I try to manually
create a channels.conf with the params I can find at for example
lyngsat.com?

Is this patch being considered to be added to the main branch?

Even if it is not strictly DVB .. shouldn't this be added since it adds
somewhat vital functionality?

[linux-dvb] Quad Receiver Satellite System

2007-09-04 Thread Jean Paul Gatt
So technically I will not be posting a query regarding DVB-S on linux, but
the system I am trying to build will ultimately be feeding into Linux
Powered Tuners and PC cards on linux systems, so if anyone can still clarify
this for me .. I will appreciate!!

I need to build a system that can support upto 4 receivers from 4 different
satellites. I don't know if any of the following setups should work, or if
there is a better way to do it:

1) Buy 4 quad LNB's that include an inbuilt switch and connect each
connection to a different diseqc 4/1 switch. This way I will have 4 LNB's,
feeding 4 4/1 switches, and each switch feeding a receiver.

2) Buy 4 quattro LNB's that do not include an inbuilt switch. Connect these
LNB's to a 17/4 diseqc switch, and then connect the 4 receivers to the
diseqc switch.

>From what I have read and diagrams I've seen on the net, I have reason to
think that both setups should work, but I need to be sure before I fork out
the cash.

Thanks for the help.

PS: In a 17/4 switch, you technically need only 16 inputs (4 from 4 LNB's)
... what is the 17th input for ??

In the meantime ...

While the whole kernel debate goes on ...can the wiki be updated with a
semi-standard procedure to follow ?

Something on the lines ... you need this basic code .. and patch it
with this diff file .

Nothing too complex! I'm just like Ian. Been following development on this
card for almost a year now, and I click on every HVR4000 related mail hoping
to see ISSUES RESOLVED, especially since the card should now practically
work!

Having said that BIG Thanks for all the hard work all developers put
into it!

Yes,

I meant the mailing list as a group.

I want to add that I know coding the drivers themselves is more important
(everybody hates documentation), but what use is a valid driver if almost
no-one knows how to use it .. or worse that it exists?!?!

Good job on the wiki so far. At last there is one place that can serve as a
