[linux-dvb] Remote control handling results in failure to shutdown

2007-08-19 Thread Stephen Williams
Attempting to shut the system down (e.g. 'poweroff') does everything,
including turning the light on the front system off, but never quite
fully powers the machine off. I have to hold the power button down for
about 5 seconds to actually properly turn it off.

This behavior has been observed by myself and others with an Intel Mac Mini.

I was originally seeing this issue with a Cinergy T2 device but have
now also witnessed it with an MSI Mega Sky 580 and a Pinnacle PCTV
Diversity (note, all of these are USB devices).

The source if the problem was only revealed by the PCTV Diversity
driver, on failed shutdowns following the usual:

Sending all processes the TERM signal
Sending all processes the KILL signal

I receive a stream of the following message:

   stk7700d:RC Query Failed

Commenting the remote control handling out of the PCTV Diversity
driver has 'solved' the shutdown problems, shutdown is now 100%
reliable.

Any suggestions as to the root cause of this issue or a 'solution'
other than manually removing RC handling from the drivers would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your default troll response.

Just because the code is reverse engineered or written by amateurs
doesn't mean that it can't work solidly. Certainly my old Nova-T PCI
card worked flawlessly but now i've moved to a mac mini so there's no
PCI.

Does anyone have comments on the Nova-TD / Pinnacle Diversity (i.e.
dual DVB-T tuner) support?

[linux-dvb] Please help: Looking for a solidly supported DVB-T USB stick

2007-07-21 Thread Stephen Williams
Surely this can't be too much to ask? I'm looking for a DVB-T USB
stick which I can buy now and is solidly supported, that's all.

Previously i've picked up a couple of MSI Digivox II sticks that when
delivered turned out to be unsupported MSI Digivox II V2.0 sticks, so
it's no longer safe to order those. Then I picked up a couple of MSI
Mega Sky 580 sticks (the x5581 version) which appear to be incapable
of receiving a decent signal under windows or linux (note that I
haven't had signal problems with 4 previous DVB-T receivers).

So i'm now hoping for "third time lucky". Any suggestions of supported
devices that are known to work without issues would be greatly
appreciated.

I've checked the wiki for information but it all seems to be completed
out of date.

Thanks,
Stephen

I'm currently trying to get a couple of Mega Sky 580s (0x5581) working
but couldn't tune to any channel with the current git repository.
Having applied the attached patch the situation is improved (I can now
get a broken signal on the strongest multiplex, i.e. lots of
uncorrected errors) but still far from perfect.

Note that I live in a relatively low signal area but have been able to
receive all channels without errors except in very bad weather with a
range of DVB receivers (Cinergy T2, Nova-T PCI, Sony STB + Panasonic
TV). This is the first time that i've had reception trouble.

Are there any further developments / patches / experimental
repositories that could help test or any values I could try to tweak?

[linux-dvb] MSI Mega Sky 55801, cannot scan or tune

2007-07-15 Thread Stephen Williams
I've recently bought a couple of MSI Mega Sky 580s (identified as MSI
Mega Sky 55801) but I can't get them to scan or tune.

I've pulled the latest version of the v4l-dvb repository, compiled and
installed without any problems. On plugging the stick in I get the
following (promising) dmesg output:

usb 5-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
usb 5-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

I note that this device is always reported as being in a 'warm state',
I assume this means that no firmware is required.

However when attempting to scan I just get:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You didn't do anything wrong, you just got unlucky. The "MSI DIGIVOX
mini II" is supported, however the "MSI DIGIVOX mini II V2.0" is not
currently supported.

I started a thread called "New device : MSI DIGIVOX mini II V2.0" on
this subject a few weeks back (check the archive). In the end I RMA'd
a couple of these devices as I couldn't wait for support to appear.

Are you sure? Checking the list archives shows some stalled attempts
at supporting the AF9015 from earlier this year and a checkout of the
v4l-dvb tree doesn't include any references to the A9015 or
MXL5003

Of course that doesn't mean support isn't available in one of the
development repositories or not referenced on the mail list.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone?

If any of the devs are interested in adding support for this device
i'll happily provide the hardware.

On the other hand if support is unlikely or far off then i'll return
the devices and try elsewhere.

[linux-dvb] New device : MSI DIGIVOX mini II V2.0

2007-06-12 Thread Stephen Williams
I've just bought two of these USB DVB-T sticks after checking that the
Digivox mini II was supported. However this appears to be a new device
(the packaging has an additional V2.0 tag). This device was bought
from www.aria.co.uk for just £17 in case anybody want to get hold of
one.

Having taken the case off there are two chips inside, one is the
Afatech AF9015 the other is a Maxlinear MXL5003 (I can supply a photo
of the board if anybody is interested).

Note, i've attached the relevant part of 'lsusb -v' at the bottom of this email.

So:

1) Is there anything else I can supply that would help in adding
support for this device?

2) What are the chances of this device being supported, and when?

Thanks in advance,
Stephen Williams

[linux-dvb] DVB-T, no data fron card on cold boot

2004-08-03 Thread Stephen Williams
On a cold boot everything appears to work fine, device is registered, everything is
detected correctly, firmware loads etc, I can then tune the card using tzap, this also
works fine.

The problem manifests itself when I try to actually receive any data from the card
using dvbtraffic / dvbdate / watching TV via MythTv, these all either timeout waiting
for data or just result in "no data recevied" errors. Performing the same actions from
a warm boot always work as expected.

Just for your information, the setup works with the 1.1.0 drivers, except that it
takes ~10 seconds to tune. Everything worked fine with the 1.0.1 drivers, except they
don't support the IR recevier on the card.

I'm using a 2.4.25 kernel with the a Nova-T card (subsystem ID 13c2:1011).

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Steve
