As Steven pointed out, the xc3028-v27.fw is for the HVR-950. I had
the same issue a few weeks ago trying to generate the firmware file
using the various tools in the source tree (see thread "[PATCH]
tuner-xc2028.c firmware loading panic" from Dec 9th for more info).
Mauro was nice enough to email it to me out-of-band.

I don't get that error message any more. I think I did something wrong with
manually loading the modules. I rebooted (and set debug=1 on a bunch of
modules in /etc/modprobe.d) and now get only

tuner' 5-0061: tuner type not set

and I don't know what that means or how to fix it.

That said, I'm not sure how he would feel about me redistributing it.

With the firmware he sent, analog support for the HVR-950 appeared to
work, albeit with no audio (I'm not sure if the problem is the driver
or something else in my system yet).

Are you compiling the mainline v4l-dvb tree? Does audio still not work for you?

No, the HVR1800 does not use that xc3028 driver, it's asking for the
firmware for the HVR950.

For digital ATSC or QAM, the HVR1800 is working nicely with the current

v4l-dvb build.

I know the HVR950 is supported (with various patches?), but I don't
 know
much about getting it to work. Have you tried the linuxtv.org wiki?

- Steve

Yes I have. I've lost track of the exact thread, but if I recall correctly,
the 950 is supported by the em28xx module in the mainline tree. I haven't been
able to find a page dedicated to it. Did I miss it? Is the mailing list the
only way to keep track of which hardware is supported by which module?

Now that you mention it, there is also http://linuxtv.org/hg/~mkrufky/hvr950/
but I don't want to have conflicts between the dvb modules there and the ones
in the mainline tree. Besides, since it is 13 months old, I imagine it has
been merged to the mainline tree. Is that not true.

If the HVR 1800 is supposed to work then it must /dev/dvb/adapter0, right? Is
there a way verify that?

Thanks for your help, Steven.

[linux-dvb] firmware xc3028-v27.fw ?

2007-12-29 Thread cromworshipper-linuxdvb
I installed two items in my machine recently
1) Hauppage hvr950
2) Hauppage pvr 1800

To get them to work, I built and installed from http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb.
The compile and install went well, but I get the following in /var/log/messages:

xc2028 2-0061: Error: firmware xc3028-v27.fw not found

Is that for the 1800 card? I haven't been able to find that firmware. Would
that be extracted from the driver CD? I might have tossed it out...

I do have the following /dev/dvb/adapter0 entries:

crw-rw+ 1 mythtv root 212, 4 2007-12-28 20:15 demux0
crw-rw+ 1 mythtv root 212, 5 2007-12-28 20:15 dvr0
crw-rw+ 1 mythtv root 212, 3 2007-12-28 20:15 frontend0
crw-rw+ 1 mythtv root 212, 7 2007-12-28 20:15 net0

Which tuner does /dev/dvb/adapter0 represent?

I also have a new entry at /dev/video1 (/dev/video0 is my old pvr 150 card). I
want to tell mythtv to use that tuner but I'm not sure what type it is. Is it
an analog V4L tuner?

Excellent, thank you Mike. I'm using an older pvr150 in my shiny new
PCI-Express motherboard and I'm looking forward to replacing it with this
PCI-Express card. If I can figure out how to split the cable I'll be able to
run both tuners until I can remove the pvr150.

Are you saying that I will need firmware to view analog tv?

Judging by my schedule, I might not be able to test this out tonight after
all. Perhaps tomorrow night. Are you saying that the
http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb stuff will not have any of your good stuff
checked in?

[linux-dvb] hvr-1800 status?

2007-11-05 Thread cromworshipper-linuxdvb
I just picked up this card and I'm looking forward to trying it. I run Fedora
7 x86_64 2.6.23-1.10. I guess I'll try the steps as described at
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_install_DVB_device_drivers and see how
it goes.

How close are we to getting NTSC to work? Do I need firmware for this card?

Advice and pointers welcome.
