In general you should provide some reasoning, as the advantages have to be
bigger in some kind than the disadvantages (in this case: different syntax,
additional dependencies). But my own position is unlikely to change with
regards to this.

hi,
autofoo stuff can cause a lot of brain damage.
if we would perform a change in the Makefile generation i would recommend
cmake. it's at least easy to understand and works out quite well.
