error while running fai-setup for ubuntu-edgy

2007-09-18 Thread Muniven Shekar-PTH473
Hi,

I am trying to create a fai CD for Ubunut's edgy release. I am getting
some errors when I run the fai-setup -v. Pls find the output below..

distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
fai-nfsroot: Depends: fai-client but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
Aborting
No diversion `any diversion of /sbin/discover-modprobe', none removed

Pls let me know as what should be done to fix this issue.

I'm wondering why in can;t find fai-client. Maybe chroot into your
nfsroot and try to install fai-nfsroot manually to see a more detailed
error. BTW, which FAI version? I just uploaded FAI 3.2.1. yesterday,
maybe you called this command during my upload.

Most probably the /etc/fai/apt/sources.list doesn't containt suffient
sources for the nfsroot. I intend to do fai 3.2.1 backports for various
earlier versions of ubuntu in the fai PPA on launchpad later this week.

Stay tuned!

Thomas,

I did it an hour back. I am using 3.2.
I will try installing fai-nfsroot manually.

Shall I use 3.2.1?

Other thing is,

Does "Ign" means ignore? Is there some issue here, or is it OK?

Have you tried creating fai CD for any of the ubuntu releases?

Hi Florian,

Should I just add universe to edgy entry? like,
* Ubuntu Edgy's main universe

Or is there anything else I need to change?

Thanks,

Hi!

your 'sources.list' is pretty messed-up ;-)

* Ubuntu Edgy's main
* Ubuntu Security's edgy-security main restricted universe multiverse
* Debian Etch's 'main', 'contrib' and 'non-free'
* Thomas FAI Repository

Afaik, fai-client is in Edgy's universe. But you'll probably wait for
Reinhard's backports.

Cheers

RE: error while running fai-setup for ubuntu-edgy

2007-09-18 Thread Muniven Shekar-PTH473
I am able to get past that error by having FAI 3.2.1.

I have created a CD which has edgy contents. When I boot with this CD, I
am getting the following error:

--
Begin: Mounting the root file system
BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian ..) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)
---

Pls let me know where I need to look into. Is there anything that I can
check in the chroot environment?

Thanks,
Shekar

Hi Prafash,

The kernel version of edgy (the ubunutu release, that I am bundling) is
2.6.17-10. But I am not finding the patch for this version in the site -
http://download.filesystems.org/unionfs. Is it OK to apply the patch
which is for 2.6.18.8 (unionfs-2.1.1_for_2.6.18.8.diff.gz)?

Thanks,

First FAI Team meeting

2007-09-18 Thread Reinhard Tartler

Hello dear Ubuntu-FAI team, hi Thomas :) [ Thomas, I've cc'ed you
to keep you in the loop what's going on on the ubuntu
side. Stephan has mentioned he wants to make sure that we don't
"fork" fai, but contribute with you. That's why I'm keeping you in
the loop from the very beginning ]

Now a few days have passed after the creation of our fai team. In
order for the team to be most effective, I think we should start
with an introduction round and a bit housekeeping. I therefore
propose that we meet together on IRC. Since we are more or less a
ubuntu team, I propose as channel #ubuntu-meeting. As time I
propose Tuesday, Sep 25m in the evening at 18:00 UTC. That's
nearly exactly one week from now. I know that it is hard to suit
everyone, so please take this only as suggestion. If you cannot
attend, please give a better date, and we can reconsider. I've
setup a temporary agenda for our meeting: * Introduction
* status quo a: housekeeping (future meetings, communication,
 etc.)

* status quo b: current problems with fai in ubuntu
* short term plans for Ubuntu 7.10(gutsy)
* long term plans for Ubuntu 8.04LTS (hardy)
* next meeting In order to record our meeting, I will check with
the scribes team https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ScribesTeam if and how we
can use their mootbot:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ScribesTeam/MootBot.

And now some other news: Updates about fai 3.2.1 in ubuntu: I've
uploaded packages for dapper, edgy, feisty and gutsy to our team's
PPA. I've documented how to use that repository here:

https://launchpad.net/~fai/+archive

They are working for me. However, I tested it only using a dapper server
installing feisty clients. I have not tested them with fai-cd, nor did I
test other combinations. Feedback on my packages are highly appreciated.
As soon as I hear some feedback from you, I'd like to announce the PPA
archive for public use on the fai mailing list.

Upload of fai 3.2.1 to gutsy will follow RSN.

Since you are using ubuntu edgy, may I suggest you use the following
repository intead of the uni-koeln.de repository instead:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fai/ubuntu edgy main restricted universe multiverse

RE: error while running fai-setup for ubuntu-edgy

2007-09-18 Thread Muniven Shekar-PTH473
Reinhard,

I pointed to the ubuntu fai URL
- deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fai/ubuntu edgy main restricted universe
multiverse,
but I am getting following warning when I run fai-setup:

install_packages: reading config files from directory /etc/fai
WARNING: These unknown packages are removed from the installation list:
live-initramfs unionfs-modules-2.6-486

Without these two packages CD won't work. Is there a workaround for
this?

Thanks,
Shekar
