Oh, this is not tested using the new plain kernel with initrd. Maybe
the initrd is missing on your CD.

There's no make-fai-bootcd. What do you mean?

Use fai-cd to create a working fai-cd. But this will also include the
nfsroot.

with NFSROOT=$NFSROOT/live/filesystem.dir to make it work...
Feel free to submit a bug report for this.

Hi Thomas,

I installed my faiserver with the actual fai-cd img
"fai-cd-3.2.iso"

> You are using the package boot-cd?
No, I just created a bootable CD instead of a bootfloppy with
make-fai-bootfloppy...

> > after manually installing fai-kernels into the nfsroot

??? Than make-fai-bootcd take the 2.6.18-5-486 kernel
(which is shipped with the FAI-CD img),
that boot-CD than isn't bootable at all
(I used a cd for speeding up the boot process,
and I also used the -B option in make-fai-bootfloop, same result)

error with the 2.6.18-5-486 kernel is:
...
VFS: Cannot open root device "nfs" or unknown block(0,255)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic ... etc
...

> > Any clues why the client can't create it's temp dirs/files?
> Because you are not using unionfs IMO.
am well - actually - no, i guess ;-)
I installed "unionfs-modules-2.6.18-5-486 and unionfs-tools" into
the faiserver and into the nfsroot (the ...modules... was present in the
nfsroot already)
but that doesn't change anything :-(

How do I get unionfs to work than?

TIA

Bernhard

P.S.: make-fai-bootfloppy also still usese $NFSROOT so I had to patch it with
NFSROOT=$NFSROOT/live/filesystem.dir to make it work...

You are using the package boot-cd? That is not used by FAI. So booting
may not work when using it.

fai-kernels is obsolete now. Do not use it with newer FAI versions!

Because you are not using unionfs IMO.

Problems installing a client

2007-10-04 Diskussionsfäden Bernhard Glomm
Hallo list,

I succesfully installed a fai-server with the latest FAI-CD.

After some tuning (installing libapt-pkg-perl and cdrecord
manually) I tried to make a boot-cd - which didn't worked...
(the default kernel couldn't mount the nfs??? finished with kernel panic)
after manually installing fai-kernels into the nfsroot
I was able to create a boot-cd that worked ... booting the client.

Now when I'm booting the client it can't create any directorys or files
because of "Read-only filesystem".
And, next(maybe related prob) although I tried to define a FAI_ACTION in class/
the client doesn't get it.

Any clues why the client can't create it's temp dirs/files?

TIA

Bernhard
