Installing LILO again works for me. Just type 'lilo' at the command
line.

I am using TurboLinux v6. I want to change the IRQ of my (non-PnP) network
card that Linux uses. How do I do this in the OS? I presume that there is
some kind of configuration file in which I need to set it. The TurboNetCfg
utility does not allow one to configure this feature.

Many thanks.

Also, in adition to this page, the mouse wheel will now work in Gnome 1.2
(if you follow the instructions in the other replies) and it works in KDE 2.0.

The HP J2405A card is covered in the Linux Ethernet HOWTO, see:

Hi,

Using RedHat 6.1 and Hayes Accural Internal modem. The problem is really
with the ISP (its a free 0800 one with BT). My problem is that occasionally
(once a week) I am disconnected from the ISP (its as thou' their connection
has timed out or summat?) and occasionally this disconnection causes my
modem to become "stuck" i.e. unable to hang itself up. I have tried forcing
ATZ via minicom but it seems the only way I can get the modem to reset
itself is to reboot the server. This is most annoying and isn't always
convienient - this is a working Linux box !

So my questions:
(1) Can I specify a modem string to force a hang up when the above happens.
If so what should I try?
(2) Is there something else I can try to force the modem to hang up without
having to reboot?

Thanks,
Chris

Are you sure that the KVM is the problem? I get these symptoms

So , this is the only advise an UNIX consultant , working with an
"professional"
organisation can give ?
What did you do here , show your ( to buy for a lot of money )
"knowledge" ?
Is this your vision of sharing knowledge , when you are not payed for it
?
Is this also the vision of the company that you represent here ?
Since you DO have to share their name with us.

Maybe , just maybe , this "dinky toy" RAID (wich i would love to have to
experiment with ) , is something he bought himself .
(I.O.W. not a company supplied item (the company bought it) to work with
in the bosses time )

Have a nice day.

Hi,
i'm not sure what you mean when you say that your
motherboard found a 16450 uart. Maybe I have the
wrong take on your issue. Your motherboard might
have a 16450 uart on it, but that is not the uart in
your internal Zoom isa pnp modem. I would make sure
that the uart on the mother board is disabled in the bios
if it is assigned the same COM port as your isa pnp modem.
Maybe you can also disable pnp for the modem and set
the jumpers for the port and irq manually. I think that this
works best in Linux and Windows and DOS.

I have and IDE CDRW and a SCSI Scanner.
I tried to enable the CDRW under linux as a Writer, but when I did, I lost
access
to the TRUE SCSI Scanner.

How can I setup the IDE CDRW drive to go through the IDE-SCSI Emulation,
yet still have access to my SCSI Scanner.

So that /usr can be read-only and /home can be read-write. (I assume he

He forgot to list /var as a separate partition. That's quite important.
I really hate runaway log files growing to swamp / or /home.

If you really don't know this and you aren't just trolling, go check

There are some legitimate reasons for making a one partition system.
They boil down to "the owner is an idiot and/or doesn't care about

A small part of your ram is taken up by the kernel, so having slightly less
than 64MB is normal.

Linux always uses pretty much all your RAM all the time. Any RAM that isn't
used by applications is used for buffering and disc caching. This improves
your system performance somewhat, but if you need the ram for apps linux
automatically decreases the cache size. You're not hitting swap very much so
I don't think you're particularly running out of RAM.

You may have a crashed app (likely Netscape) chugging away in the
background. If you do 'uptime' it will show the uptime and load averages. If
this >1 it's likely you have a hung process or two.

Otherwise I can't see any real reason for performance dropping. But another
64MB always makes things smoother ;).
