Previous config was Abit kt7 mb Duron 700 cpu. Linux ran(runs) rock
solid on it. Upgraded mb and cpu to Abit kt7a TBird 1.2 - 266fsb cpu.
It is extremely unstable under linux. Nothing else was changed. Same
periphs, same slots, same memory, video card, everything. Freezes
regularly. It's pretty much unusable. System is dual boot and runs NT
without problems. Not a single freeze. Might be the hardware but I don't
think so. I haven't made any bios performance tweeks at all.
Everything's set conservatively. If anyone has an Abit kt7a running
without problems I would appreciate knowing about it. At least I would
know it could be done.

thanks,

I think you need to get the latest kernel. I am using linux kernal 2.2.14,
Redhat 6.2.
I have a 40G Maxtor disk (different model) and I have EZ-BIOS and jumpered
as 2G
harddrive. I can format the entire 40G harddisk for Windows, but when I
used partition magic to put 20G for windows and 20G
for linux, partition magic created and formatted the 20G linux. When I
tried to format the 20G linux again with Redhat 6.2,
it would make a horrible clicking sound formatting the last 10G and it would
not finish formatting the 20G.
I had to move the linux to the front 7G and back 33G to windows and it works
fine even though I don't like the size of the partition.
I am downloading Redhat 7.0. Hopefully I could format the linux partition
the way I want it.

Can anybody tell me how to configure the disk to have the missing 33GB

HELP! Even if I copy the working config files

 Any suggestions?

You answered my question before I was able to ask it. I just got the latest
2.2.14 kernel and it gave me the same problem. I'll try to find the patch
that you mention and see if that does the trick.

That's problem a configuration problem, so I entered Linux Single and

In case the modem is an internal, does linux see the extra serial port? My
guess would be the portsettings are incorrect. I know everyone says Linux
doesn't use BIOS but I always setup the onboard ports to COM13 or disable
them. Otherwise they will conflict with internal modems. If it is an
external modem set the ports in BIOS to something your mouse and internal
modem is NOT using. Never use com 2 and 4, and 1 and 3 together to avoid
problems. This may be not true by the books but it is in the real world.

I run two dual Pentium-II boxes with ASUS boards w/ built-in SCSI.
Very nice. (P2B-DS, P-II 400MHz, 128Mb RAM) I can't speak for the tomcat
as I know nothing about it, but I've learned over the years not to go
the cheap route. My time is too precious to spend it fighting hardware,
especially something with the potential for problems as SMP.

I would strongly recommend 2.2.x kernel. I've run on 2.0.xx, 2.1.129,
and 2.2.1 now. Big kudos to the kernel team for 2.2.x. The system
overhead is next to nothing, compared to the 2.0 series. My server just
flys. I can hardly load it
