Hi,

Is it possible to connect two Linux boxes via USB? I don't really need
full networking, just the ability to send/receive files.

any hints?

regards, Michal

Subject: TV-OUTput from video card under Linux?

Hi,

I have Linux RH6.2 on a PC equipped with Riva Ultra TNT2 Vanta card.
The card has TV-OUT sockets (one for SVHS and one for ordinary video
signal). Under Windoze98 the card driver allows to switch the output
device between monitor and TV, but not both at the same time.

Under Linux, it works strange. Without any special action, the TV screen
shows something which is surely the copy of monitor screen (I can
recognize the colors of my xterm windows etc), but screwed up as if it
had no sync.

I wonder if it would be possible to have the card output to TV properly.

regards, Michal.

I have recently upgraded my computer to:

Athlon 850 Socket A
Asus A7V Motherboard
256Mb

I have reinstalled RedHat 6.2 but when I boot the new installation I get a
general protection fault whilst it is trying to 'disable CPUID serial
number'. The redhat rescue disk, and installation disk, boot fine so I guess
it is a problem with the configuration of the kernel that RedHat has
installed.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get my kernel to load successfully ?

Thanks.

Linux lspci command says that the WinModem uses IRQ-10
and MS-Windows98-system-Info utility says that EtherlinkIII uses
 IRQ-10 too !

I installed Suse7.0 on my PC which has
  a 3COM Etherlink III (3C509) Lan Card
  and a PCI modem V90 (a winmodem !)

3c509 is really an ISA card and unable to share IRQ with a PCI card. You
should do the following:

enter your cmos-setup at boot.
Somewhere in there there is a setting called something like PCI/PNP
settings. In there you should be able to tell your BIOS to reserve IRQ10
for ISA only. The next time you reboot your PCI card will get another
IRQ.

my linux box does not have its own cdrom drive. i only have the cdrom drive
during installation and whenever needed. but today i reattach the cdrom
drive to my linux box and i couldn't mount it.

the message is
mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/hdd as a block device
 (maybe `insmod driver'?)

how do i solve this problem?

thanx

You need to use the ppa module.

I am using kernel 2.0.36, which doesn't allow printer to be connected to
the back of the zip drive. Your kernel 2.2.0 should be fine. Please read
the how to documents. It is an easy to follow document.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Dennis

Subject: [Fixed] Re: Sony CDU-33A: RH6.0 Can't Mnt During Install
Date: 06 Aug 1999 12:49:50 GMT

Thanks to "Elvis" in Canada for the tip on this one.

Here is the installation problem:
 - Selected CDU-31X
 - First Tried "Autoprobe". RH6 couldn't find my drive.
- Next Tried "Custom Options" (or
 whatever). I entered "0340, 5" (just as
listed here, without double-quotes) for
my CD's Base Address and IRQ
(respectively). RH6 still couldn't find the drive.

Here was the solution.
- In RH6.0's install options for the Sony CDU-33A drive, you must select the
"Sony CDU-31x" option, then ...
- Select "Custom Options" ...
- You're presented w/ three fields.
-- For "Base Address", enter the base address of your CD drive ** IN HEX **
--- For me, that was "0x340"
-- For "IRQ", enter your CD's IRQ, or ** 0 ** if your CD is connected to your
sound card, and your IRQ is disabled
 --- For me, I entered "0"

After setting the above custom options, everything worked. RH6.0 found my CD
drive!

Why did you recompile the Kernel? Redhat 6.0 should support APM within the
kernel-2.2.5..rpm?!
I use Redhat6.0 with kernel 2.2.5-22 on a Intel TX-chipset with
Systemsoft-Bios and have not these problems with APM and systemclock.
