ISDN card or external "modem" (TA)
Hi. I need to connect a linux box to an ISDN line (for internet connectivity). I need either an internal PCI card or an external TA ("modem"). My first preference would be to buy a used one from someone who no longer needs his (moved up to broadband). If not, could someone tell me what model to buy and from where ? I have notated songs with hebrew lyrics I can't type hebrew to save my life and theres tons of text. there is also lots of information in hebrew on the songs. I didn't see the need for Hebrew. I think that at least in (1) and (2), Hebrew is not built in. So you will either have to add it, or to switch to a commercial solution. There are mainly 2 solutions, both for Windows: Ligature (the most professional one), and Kotev (the cheaper). Anyway, adding Hebrew is not a mission impossible. You need 2 things for that: 1. To teach the engine - usually it's easy to teach it, and even doesn't require any patch. 2. To make some minor patches so right-to-left will be supported instead of right-to-left. I think you could implement that with bindings (similar to IE's Behaviors). Some of you might already know that you can apply your own styles to web pages using the userContent.css file (content/userContent.css in your Gecko profile directory). For example, the flying yellow submarine on www.yellow-submarine.org (which doesn't work well on Linux Flash plugin) annoyed me, so I added: embed[name=flying_sub] { display:none; } Violla, no more submarine. --- Some of you might also know that there's a proprietary Mozilla feature called 'bindings'. I know the site is in English, and I am not > saying we should prepare a translation to Hebrew, but if someone wishes to > post in Hebrew, why forbid that? First of all, doing Hebrew HTML logic requires the implementation to be smarter. You have to get the paragraph direction right, the RTL/LTR stuff right, etc. If you can give a patch that will do it properly, I make incorporate it. Secondly, some people looking for a job don't speak Hebrew very well. Like I said, I don't mind someone creating a Hebrew Job Tracker, and he may even borrow my code. Thirdly, Hebrew job ads tend to have a lot of Latin characters anyway, and sometimes English jargon. I think Hebrish would be much worse than English. Fourthly, I think the prospects of a candidate who does not know English well enough to read a Job ad to be accepted into a Linux-related position is "slim to none". And last, www.iglu.org.il is distinguished among other Israeli Linux-related sites in being an English only site, intended for international crowd. I don't see much place for Hebrew content there, even if it's user-submitted. Like I said I don't mind someone else setting up a Hebrew Job Tracker on a different site. I'll gladly adapt my code for it (as long as will be generic enough to serve the purposes of both trackers), and would even link to it from the English tracker. > > I hate to think what would happen if whatsup, or any other Israeli site, > prevented me from posting in English. > They may well allow that, in case they don't want to ruin the uniformity of their site. [OT?] SPAM
Hi All, I am too tiered of getting more and more SPAM by e-mail. is there some DB I can submit my e-mail address to, and it will unsubscribe me from all known SPAMers? I know this could work the other way, but even after I disabled coockies and am willing to live with the constant nag of the sites, I am creating more and more filters for what seems to be th e same sh*t !! New Jobs Tracker
A preview version of the new jobs tracker is available in: http://www.iglu.org.il/cgi-bin/jobs/new/main.pl Changes since the original: 1. A new SQL table schema that allows for some 64KB blobs, and some new fields (like job title or cellphone). 2. A mandatory preview and only then preview/submit feature. 3. Some hints in the form on what to put in the fields. 4. Newest Jobs now come first. 5. Better formatted job records with an ability to change to an even better format. (by use of a template and a CSS stylesheet). There were many changes in the code to accomodate for this. Most of the most critical problems in the old tracker were fixed. My pressing todo list at the moment is: <<< * Find a way to restrict the width of the table to the width of the input cells. * Add constraints on the input fields as a precaution to make sure the preview looks well. >>> I also need to write a cron job that will periodically invalidate old records. sms_client use in israel?
Has anyone been able to get smsclient to somehow work in israel? "SMS Client uses your modem to dial into a messages centre operated by your provider, this relays the message to the phone or pager." Does anyone know of any such company in israel providing Message Centre like services?
