Gnucash & VAT

2007-06-19 Thread Yuval Hager
Hi all,

I am using Gnucash as a personal finance manager, and was wondering how to
approach VAT/IRS liabilities for a small business (Osek Murshe).

Looking at the FAQ I could not find a simple method to handle VAT related
payments and refunds.

Has anyone succeeded in creating such a scheme for Israeli tax definitions?

I don't mind managing the paper-work as well, as required by law, I just want
to be able to view reports and analyze my finances - both personal and
business.

I chose gnucash over Kmymoney as it seemed more mature and feature-rich,
however, according to the FAQ, Kmymoney contains a simple method for handing
VAT while gnucash does not.. :(

I also read the excellent slides by Oron Peled's about Gnucash -
http://www.haifux.org/lectures/119-sil/, but there is nothing there regarding
VAT.

Regards,

[SUMMARY] Current status of Israeli ISPs

2007-06-19 Thread Omer Zak
Dotan Cohen:
  - Actcom.
  - Last time I called them with a problem was few weeks ago,
and at the time all seemed normal.
  - If there is no Linux support anymore at Actcom, what must
one do to connect via a Jordanian ISP?
Asaf Halili and Geoffrey S. Mendelson:
  - Actcom was sold to Bezeq Beinleumi, need to check current
status of Linux support.
Geoffrey S. Mendelson:
  - Are Orange and Bynet still an option? They have not been
cheap, though.
  - Does BEZEQ (the phone company, not the ISP) still have their
10 NIS a month deal for support of a router on an aDSL line?
That might be a better option such as a Linksys WRTG54-L and
Tomato.
Danny Schneidman - a former employee of Actcom:
  - Dont count on Linux support, as all employees got fired,
and as far as i understood, Bezeq's supporters have no clue.
  - The changes are since 2007 June 1 (two weeks ago).
Ori Idan:
  - Wrote a post about it in: http://www.oriidan.info/article/custserv
(At the moment of making this summary, his domain is inaccessible.)
Amit Aronovitch:
  - Uses Netvision. Netvision seems to have a single Linux support
person. It is easier to re-create the problem using a MS-Windows
laptop and report the error messages displayed by MS-Windows.
Chaim Keren Tsion:
  - Will stay with Bezeq Beinleumi, and suggests to use the group
power of Linux using Actcom customers to get Bezeq Beinleumi to
continue to support Linux like Actcom did.

To answer some of the questions some people asked:

The company is privately held, 150-200 employees, and located in central Tel
Aviv.
The company is not looking to outsource this position.
"Bonus Points" means that you have a better chance of getting the job if you
are knowledgeable in these subjects.

Sorry for being late to the game.

I do not dispute the above, but I was a Netvision customer (privately,
not as a business) from something like 1996 (don't remember exactly)
until a few years ago. I was always able to get Linux support from
them. The support people were not exactly gurus, but they were able to
solve problems (not that I had many of them) and I don't recall anyone
expressing real surprise when I said from the outset that I was using
Linux, never did they say they did not support it, nor did they insist
on verifying a problem on Windows (which I didn't have).

I would be interested to know if this actually changed in recent years
(I enjoy business grade support through my employer so I quit
Netvision a few years ago).

Amos, what is your budget for this ?

There are a few options:

SGI 1200 or SGI 2100
HP DL360G5
Dell PowerEdge 1950

IBM x3550
No name Intel based boards stuff (if you're talking about

However, for a server with 32GB memory, I would go
for one of the brand names.

re:Web mail security

2007-06-19 Thread Ghiora Drori
Hi,

Thanks for the answers, however I think I was not exact enough with my
questions. We are talking about yahoo mail which as much as I can tell
does not use https. Even gmail only uses https only when forced to (that
is when you access it through https//:mail.google.com.
I found an article claiming that web pages are only stored in the cache
for incoming pages. Outgoing pages (ones that you filled up are not.)
This is the article:

https://www.blackhat.com/presentations/bh-usa-03/bh-us-03-akin.pdf

In the following RFC :
http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec14.html
It says the browser can be told NOT to cache the page.

quote:14.9.1 What is Cacheable
..
private
Indicates that all or part of the response message is intended for a
single user and MUST NOT be cached by a shared cache. This allows an
origin server to state that the specified parts of the
response are intended for only one user and are not a valid response
for requests by other users. A private (non-shared) cache MAY cache the
response.

 .

Note: Most HTTP/1.0 caches will not recognize or obey this directive.
###

I would assume an email server would use it. Anyone know if yahoo email
does? Anyone know if IE5 does respond properly. fRom What I can see it
does not.

One more thing: I have been programming and working with computers for
over 20 years. I know the internals of systems, networks and file
systems. Please no lectures for newbies. What I am looking at this as
part of a criminal investigation. If there is anyone in the group with
such low level knowledge of these processes I would like to hear from him.

If you want respect, I think it would be wise to start by giving respect to
those who answered you. Actually reading the responses would be a good start.

Oded and I have answered your question exactly. Oded answered about cached
pages and I answered about non-cached pages. Someone with 20 years experience
of working with computer can easily connect the dots from here.

BTW, If this is a serious matter (i.e. truly a part of a criminal
investigation) I suggest you talk to/hire a forensic expert rather than post
this question on a Linux list.
