OT: Israeli web host ratings?
I am about to open an account with an Israeli web hosting company but before I do that I wanted to know if anyone knows of a site that can show me how that host has been doing, like a rating site where I can see what complaints people may have (or compliments) about a particular host. Does anything like this exists in Israel (or for Israeli hosts)? OT: accounting software for Israeli computer professionals/freelancers
Does anyone know of a good software package for managing business finances in Israel? Specifically for a computer consultant/freelancer. According to mas hacnasa the software has to be approved by them. Help getting rid of M$
Hello All: I am a Linux enthusiast currently living in Israel (moved from New York City). For the past year or so I've been helping a small factory in my Kibbutz get their technology in order. Also trying to wean them off Micro$oft products. The factory has about 20 users and they use an ERP application called Ma'ale. They are currently planning to upgrade their systems using a new Windows based version of the Ma'ale application (client and server) along with Microsoft's SBS and terminal server (!!!???). Of course this REALLY bugs me because I KNOW that there must be a Linux solution out there. The only problem is that their current system (Ma'ale) is completely in Hebrew and the factory wants to stay that way and I don't know much about the Linux ERP applications Hebrew situation. I'd like to know of there is anyone who is familiar with Ma'ale and knows of a similar application on Linux in Hebrew? Maybe someone would like to offer some ideas or talk directly to the factory as a private consultant. I would prefer that to the Micro$oft peddling bunch that are talking to them now. Any help is appreciated, Ben Hornedo = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: simulate dial-up connection speed ?
Maybe you could set up TC (Linux Bandwidth Management and Traffic Control). Should be able to allow you restrict traffic to any speed you like. I want to find out how a web site performs on dial-up connection. Out of curiousity: why simulate? How difficult is it to test with a real dial-up connection? The common answer in the corporate world is a set of products from a company named 'Shunra'. It's been a few years, but IIRC Shunra is rather expensive. I know there are already a few free alternatives, I only used one of them, called nistnet, which seems to be dead. Gooling for 'shunra nistnet' is probably a good start. To save you a bit of Googling, here are a few URLs from my old bookmarks. I cannot recommend any of these because I have not looked at this stuff for ages (ages in internet time, but still...). Hope this will help you get started. I don't remember whether any of these will let you simulate the bandwidth of a dial-up connection (I think NIST Net does). They may let you play with latency, packet loss, maybe jitter (I doubt the latter). Some of them may have a different purpose, e.g. protocol debugging, and will not be suitable. I don't remember which is which, though I suspect NIST Net is closer to what you need than the others. RE: ADSL recommendations
I use actcom (www.actcom.com). They support Linux and can also provide a static IP if you need it. Service has been great so far. I've been with them for about 10 months and the only downtime was because of BEZEQ. I know that Netvision says they have Linux support. Are there any other companies that support Linux? Which would you recommend? Don't know about any that support linux. Ask about pppoe support, I believe its easier setting up then pptp. Also go for the eth modem not the usb one. The small standard usb one (don't remember the name) doesn't support linux at all. I have the eci and it works fine. It also has the ability to work as a gateway, at least with pppoe which can make life easier with macs or multiple computers. I am working with beseqint. They gave me a deal on paying once every two months which made them worthwhile, normally they are not cheep. No linux support, but no immediate aversion either. Had very bad experience with 012 in the past. They claim to have gotten better, but I don't know. RE: Compaq Evo N1015v
This may be a little wild but try making the boot floppies for the RH8 install then copy the ISO images of the install CD's onto the Compaq's Hard disk (You'll need to make a partition large enough to handle the 3 files). Then boot from the install floppy and select Hard Disk when asked for the location of the installation media. I don't know what capacity hard disk you have in the machine but if it's new this shouldn't be a problem. Once you're done with the install you can get rid of the partition containing the ISO's (with Linux fdisk, or whatever). Hope that helps. If anyone has succeeded in installing any Linux distribution on this computer, or read anywhere about a solution to this problem or even has a wild idea, kindly let me know. It would be rather embarcing for me to admit that I can't get Linux installed on my brother new laptop and firther more because of the very cheap prices HP offers these beasts lately I would wager that I would not be the last to run into this.
