If you have your own domain, you can manage it using CloudFlare and use
there API <https://www.cloudflare.com/docs/client-api.html> to edit the zone
<https://www.cloudflare.com/docs/client-api.html#s5.2> file and update the
IP address each time it change.

With such a generic and non-descriptive error message, how can you possibly
expect anyone to know the answer? In order to find the culprit, you should
take common debugging measures. Set named's debug level to a high value
(See named's manual page for further details), run it through strace and
so forth. After you have collected more informative messages, you may forward
them to the list. Letting us have a glimpse at your configuration might also
be an OK idea.

You seem to misunderstood me.

I configured a fully working system twice now, one with Suse and one with
Debian and it works perfectly. The problem is with RedHat 7.3.

DHCP failes to update Bind. Other then that both work ok. (ie I get leases
and resolving)

So, I ask again, any ideas about the "unauthorized" messages ?

I use a dynamic DNS configuration which authorizes updates by IP
('allow-update' directive) and it works fine. Of course, I allow
updates only from localhost; this is a very weak form of authentication
for anything else.

Dynamic DNS

2002-11-04 Thread Oleg Kobets
Hi!

Have any of you encountered a strange problem configuring dynamic dns on
Red-Hat 7.3 ?
I have installed Bind 9.2.0 (from rh cd) and dhcpd 3.0pl1 (from osc.org) and
configured it exactly (copied the files) as on my other machine and it gives
me:

"unauthorized"

lines when it tries to update the dns.

Anyone has any ideas why ?

P.S I tried using a "key" in bind and dhcpd, tried without, tried with
sausages, nothing!

What has the OS of the machine to do with this? You can use an Amstrad
CPC and it'll still work (Yes, there is a tcp/ip stack for Amstrad ;-)
you're talking about the DNS standart. It doesn't matter what machine is
being redirected to.

I don't see how will that help you as there's no differance between a
"real" hostname and a dynamic one.
Most dynamic IP users that look for more "Power" look usually for the
ability to controll the reverse lookup and that will still show their
ISP's client hostname.

Re: Dynamic DNS and a DOMAIN

2000-08-07 Thread Evgeny Zemlerub

Yep, sure it will work(at least I think so :-).
All that your ISP (or whoever you will use for DNS) will have to do
it's to make an alias from host that you want to dydns. In BIND it
will look like this (IIRC)
www.yourhost.co.il.INCNAMEx.dydns.org.

or in case that you(they) use tinydns (part of djbdns package) :
Cwww.yourhost.co.il:x.dydns.org:600
(last part is ttl)

Evgeny

Hello,
I know i can order a domain name with the ability
to "ALIAS POINT" another host.
my idea was ordering a domain through a company
that is able to do ALIAS POINTING to a host and that host is a .dyndns.org.
i know this method works and works perfectly on winNTx systems. i wonder how it
will work on linux.
might this be the sollution for all the dynamic IP
users that want more power?
