A few maybe trivial questions but maybe I'm missing the general idea
here ...
How can I see the mail tray icon?
I've installed it as documented and it returned a success but I don't
see our fabled icon.
Is there a special desktop related addon I'm supposed to choose.
How does it know to recognize the panel cross desktop managers?
I'm currently using gnome with the panel notification area enabled -
(that's the place I'd assume the notificator will pop up) - and I see nada.
My sys consists of Fedora-core-1, gnome-2.4, thunderbird 0.4 (20031205).

In the system tray. Something like this (the leftmost icon):

Maybe because you didn't receive any new mail messages. It should
appear after new messages arrive to your account and until you read
them for the first time.

No, as long as your KDE / GNOME panels have the tray icons container
shown. They do, by default.

There's a standard for tray icons on X. You can find it here:
http://www.freedesktop.org/Standards/systemtray-spec

I'm currently using gnome with the panel notification area enabled -
(that's the place I'd assume the notificator will pop up) - and I see nada.

Notification icons of programs such as SIM, licq, k3b and kmix appear there?

Hi,
I had the same failing experience with Mozilla Mail 1.5 - no problems on
installation, the checkbox in configuration enabled, but no icon
either...

New mail tray icon for Mozilla Mail / Thunderbird (Take 2)

2003-12-26 Thread Ilya Konstantinov
Howdy,

I updated my Free Desktop Integration extension -- the one which
(for now) provides you only one feature: a new mail tray icon
for your Mozilla Mail and Thunderbird.

Changes:
- Acts as a Thunderbird extension (when installed on Thunderbird).
Can be enabled/disabled completely and configured through
  the Settings dialog.
- Integrates into Mozilla preferences (Mail News | Notifications).
For now, the integration is rather awkward, due to Mozilla's
  inflexibility. (Bug 229451)

Installation package:

   http://iglu.org.il/~future/mozFreeDesktopIntegration.xpi

   * Note: On Thunderbird, use the Install extension button.
