xpi files are packages installable from Netscape 6 / Mozilla.
For example, themes ("Chromes") or the Java support comes in .xpi files
which can be installed on the fly by accessing them with Netscape 6.

AFAIK, Netscape 6 also comes with an executable installer.

For some reason I suspect that you haven't seen Mozilla M15 on
BSDI 4.0.1, have you?  Last time I saw it there was sone drunk
Irishman nearby asking it where he can get such booze.

I suggest you to download mozilla (probably you should try the M15 build -
have a look at http://mozilla.org ).

I don't know exactly what have netscape added to the linux build (at least
to the windows build they added some annoying AOL integration stuff). But
one major difference is that you'll be able to view hebrew sites properly
- both logical and visual hebrew (provided you can set the fonts
properly).

And - no. IMO it is hardly stable enough to replace netscape at the moment
(netscape can be resonably stable once you disable java and javascript).
