Re: Skype phones for Linux?

2008-08-12 Thread Noam Rathaus
Hi,

I tried just one USB Skype phone - Philips (don't remember which model) and it
didn't work - no clue to how to get it to work, no usb support apparently in
Skype for Linux? but this was 6 months ago.

I would go with Skype VoIP phones, where no PC is required.

Can't suggest a model, but I was in the past considering the Belkin one, until
I found out no one in Israel imports it - unless you buy it and then you wait
21 days for it to arrive.

If that is the case, I rather buy it next time I am in the US :)

That way I can try it out while I am still there to confirm that it works as
planed.

 Hi,

Following the Woohoo, Skype subscription now works also in Israel news,
has anybody got experience with Skype phones over Linux?

If you decide for skype voip phone, then go for snom. It's good.

I used it once just for VOIP not for skype.

As an addendum, the D-Link device is called a D-Link DPH-50U,
and it's on the OpenSuse Driver Wish List, so I think it's safe to assume
you won't be able to get it to work.

http://www.cidavdigital.com/voip.html

Click the word Linux and you get:

Step 1: Download Install Skype for Linux

http://www.skype.com/download

Step 2: Download Install LINUX driver Built-in)

http://cidavdigital.com/LinuxSkypeMate1.1.0.0.1

Step 3: Connect USB Phone and then you can make calls by it.

Support Models:

CIDAV 660 CIDAV 770

They are an Israeli company with MOC approval for the 770 and Hebrew manuals.

I've used the 770 (USB ATA) with Windows, and the 660 (USB Handset) with
Windows and UNIX (MacOS), but never used either with Linux. I am NOT
a fan of Skype.

I bought mine at BUG, but they no longer have them on their website.

Someone in Jerusalem was selling the D-Link version of the 770, but I don't
know how compatible they are with the drivers or if D-Link has Linux
drivers for theirs. His also had MOC approval.

I have seen them in the store in Malcha (Jerusalem), but it was a while
ago.

599 NIS.
