psaux mouse driver + inland pro optical 100 mouse

2001-06-15 Thread David Ashley

Under linux 2.4.1 if I move the mouse slow enough it doesn't register at all
in Xwindows. If I unplug the ps2 mouse and plug it back in, it works
perfectly, no matter how slowly I move it the movement is registered. It
is as if the linux kernel is imposing a threshold on the movement.

Under windows it works fine. The problem is in linux.

I've tried modifying pc_keyb.c code by sending an F6 byte to set defaults,
using the aux_write_ack function in open_aux(), but that doesn't have any
effect. Does anyone have a clue what the driver is doing to reduce the
quality of the mouse? I'm not sure it is limited to this particular mouse,
it is just the one I just bought at Fry's for $10.

I'm running an athlon 1 gig, /proc/version is
Linux version 2.4.1 (root@dave) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2
release)) #17 Fri Jun 15 20:15:45 PDT 2001

Thanks!

2.4 kernel problem

2001-04-10 Thread David Ashley

XFree86 X window updates are slower on 2.4 than 2.2, by a significant amount.
I've observed this comparing 2.2.18 with 2.4.1 and one of the 2.4.pre kernels.
I've seen it with ATI Rage 128, Geforce 1 and GeForce 2 MX. I've seen it on
two different computers, both Athlon based. Just any rectangular copies to
an X window are slow on 2.4 and much faster under 2.2.18.

I'm using DRI and accelerated GLX servers so I get good 3d, but 2d is
suffering in a *big* way. Here are some frames/second for a simple program:

Using shared memory Kernel frames/second
 yes 2.4 39
 no2.4 30
 yes 2.2.18 245
 no2.2.18 88

I can't get any response from the XFree86 team. I know I'm not the only
one with this trouble, something has been broken in the 2.4.

Thanks--
Dave
