Problem with DHCP when using tokenring on 2.4.x
Hello, I have a problem with DHCP when using tokenring card on 2.4.x kernel . When I am using IBM tokenring adapter( all) and trying to hook on to the lan n/w using DHCP ,I get an error message "operation failed " from the dhcp client . The dhcp server is getting the broadcast message when the dhcp client is run. I am using pump that comes with 6.2 redhat distribution . There is no problem when using static IP. I could experience this problem only on 2.4.x . I am able to get a valid IP address on 2.2.x kernel when using tokenring adapter. And also there is no problem when using ethernet adapter on 2.4.x . . Has anyone experienced this problem on 2.4.x . Can any one help me to resolve this problem. kernel Oops message -2.4.x - contains ksymoops
Hi, I am doing some testing on IBM Lanstreamer MCA tokenring adapter on IBM PS/2 server-9595. Inserting the driver ( as module) it is perfect. But when I do an ifconfig tr0 up then I get an kernel panic and Oops message is printed out . It occures when the function interruptible_sleep_on_timeout() is called within the device driver .. . I am using kernel-2.4.0 with redhat -7 installation. Same effect was also there on 2.4.2 .But I didn't had any problem when the driver is compiled and run on 2.2.x version . Can anyone help me to resolve the problem. . The following is the output of ksymoops < oops.txt message. ISAPNP :driver not recognized when compiled in kernel
Hello, I have a basic question. Can we build a PnP ISA driver in kernel with ISAPNP kernel option enabled so that kernel PnP does the job of allocating the resources for the driver. The problem being that the /etc/isapnp.conf should be executed before the device driver. I tried this and was unsuccessful but worked fine when the driver was compiled as a module. I read somewhere that ISAPNP drivers with ISAPNP enabled in kernel should only be build as modules so that we can keep the order of execution . Is this true.? Have any one of you tried this . Boot disks are very inflexible, since you don't have any utilities to poke around and figure out what's going on. Once you have a complete root filesystem, once you've got a kernel to recognise your scsi adapter, (and disk), you're off to the races, and can use all kinds of tools to look into the CDROM problem...BUT it's probably not going to recognise the disk either... check different virtual consoles with alt-f1, f2, etc: under a normal redhat boot disk, the different vc's will have diagnostic messages, ie kernel messages, list of modules being loaded, etc. maybe the best way is to be sure to compile kernel with support for scsi subsystem *in kernel* - not module, along with scsi-disk, scsi-cdrom, and your scsi host adapter. the last one may be the tricky one. you will have to figure out if it is supported. (the one in my PS/2 is at least for 2.0 kernel) if you can make the kernel on the boot disk use a smaller font, you will be able to see more of the messages at once. also, shift-PgUp should let you scroll back some of the messages. look for the kernel messages from your scsi host adapter driver... if you don't see any there's a problem! take a look inside your box and see what kind of scsi adapter it has. or use your reference disk to see what it is. post that here so someone (maybe me) can check for kernel support. difficulty installing linux on ps/2 - 9595 server having pentium-90
Hello, Initially I had difficulty in booting linux on ps/2 server -9595 for installation. I overcame that problem by replacing the installation boot image with a 2.4.0 custom build image . I am booting from the floppy disk since the system (old system) does not support booting from the cd rom. Booting was successful. The problem is that after booting up the cd drive is not been recognized for installation .Currently os/2 is installed in the server and it displays CD-ROM device as IBM CD-ROM II ,Enhanced CD-ROM II .I had compiled the kernel with SCSI support . I used redhat 7 for installation . Info. regarding using IBM ISA turbo 16/4 tokenring adapter
Hi all, I am using IBM ISA turbo 16/4 tokenring adapter. This is what I experienced in 2.4.0 kernel. On configuring the adapter using Lanaid tool , the default ROM address always falls within the video ROM area.. This was causing the system to hang-up when XWindows was started and there was no other way than to switch off the system and switch on again. So I changed the ROM area of the adapter using the Lanaid tool which fall outside the video ROM area. Now I have no problem in using the XWindows. The default interrupt is 3.
