Thanks a lot. I have tried out the patch including possible fixes for the
monitor disconnect issues mentioned in the freedesktop bug, but it does
not fix the problem of the disappearing external monitor.

Well, that means no audio-out for now, unfortunately. I will have to live
without that.

Thanks

Norbert

Lenovo Dock Ultra contains a DP-MST Hub to provide all those
HDMI/DVI/DP ports. Audio over DP-MST is currently not supported
by the i915 driver, but there are patches (developed since ~2014):

Lenovo Dock + Thinkpad X260 -> no HDMI audio output

2016-11-15 Thread Norbert Preining
Dear all,

(please cc)

I am trying to get HDMI audio output via a Lenovo Dock Ultra in
combination with a Lenovo Thinkpad X260.

When plugging the HDMI device (screen) directly into the laptop,
audio output can be selected in pavucontrol / Configuration, but
when the laptop is connected via the dock all the HDMI devices
appear as unplugged.

I have googled a bit and found a similar case for T430:
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.user/36896
and checking the source code of snd_hda_intel it seems that
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-dock
should help, but indeed it didn't.

I am running Debian/sid, on today's git kernel (4.9.0-rc5+).

I attach the output of alsa-info.

Please let me know whether I can try some more tweaks.

Thanks a lot

Norbert
