Yep, you are right, I forgot about the regulator. Something like this?

[PATCH v3 0/8] Input: atmel_mxt_ts - output raw touch diagnostic data via V4L

2016-06-01 Thread Nick Dyer
This is a series of patches to add diagnostic data support to the Atmel
maXTouch driver. It's a rewrite of the previous implementation which output via
debugfs: it now uses a V4L2 device in a similar way to the sur40 driver.

There are significant performance advantages to putting this code into the
driver. The algorithm for retrieving the data has been fairly consistent
across a range of chips, with the exception of the mXT1386 series (see patch).

We have a utility which can read the data and display it in a useful format:
https://github.com/ndyer/heatmap/commits/heatmap-v4l

These patches are also available from
https://github.com/ndyer/linux/commits/diagnostic-v4l

Changes in v3:
- Address V4L2 review comments from Hans Verkuil
- Run v4l-compliance and fix all issues - needs minor patch here:
  https://github.com/ndyer/v4l-utils/commit/cf50469773f

Changes in v2:
- Split pixfmt changes into separate commit and add DocBook
- Introduce VFL_TYPE_TOUCH_SENSOR and /dev/v4l-touch
- Remove "single node" support for now, it may be better to treat it as
metadata later
- Explicitly set VFL_DIR_RX
- Fix Kconfig

[PATCH v3 3/8] [media] v4l2-core: Add VFL_TYPE_TOUCH_SENSOR

2016-06-01 Thread Nick Dyer
Some touch controllers send out raw touch data in a similar way to a
greyscale frame grabber. Add a new device type for these devices.

Use a new device prefix v4l-touch for these devices, to stop generic
capture software from treating them as webcams.

[PATCH v3 1/8] Input: atmel_mxt_ts - add support for T37 diagnostic data

2016-06-01 Thread Nick Dyer
Atmel maXTouch devices have a T37 object which can be used to read raw
touch deltas from the device. This consists of an array of 16-bit
integers, one for each node on the touchscreen matrix.

the parameters from T9 and T100 and take account of the difference.

I think the open question is whether you're happy with the

Synaptics RMI4 also emits 16 bit signed, see

Yes, and I've now fixed all issues that I could find with it. I had to do
some minor updates to support the touch sensor stuff, see:

[RFC] SDI timings and API

2016-06-01 Thread Charles-Antoine Couret
Hello all,
The purpose of this RFC is to define SDI timings structure and potentially the
associated API in the V4L2 API.

** Context **

Currently, V4L2 API has a structure to define CEA-861 / VESA timings. If these
timings are common in monitor and general market, in the industry or television
context there are some components which used SDI timings with different
properties.

** Issues **

There are not the notion of front/back/syncporch. Instead, there are vertical /
horizontal blanking defined before the video signal. This blanking could have
ancillary data used by audio signal or other metadata.
The horizontal blanking are delimited by EAV and SAV words, because of SDI is a
digital interface.

Some timings are very... strange. Like the SMPTE-125M:

The organization of lines :
Line 1 to 9 : blanking
Line 10 to 20 : options (ancillary data)
Line 21 to 264 : field 1
Line 265 to 272 : blanking
Line 273 to 282 : options
Line 283 to 525 : field 2

The blanking lines are not regular: 19 then 18 lines.
The size of fields are different too: 243 then 242.

The Field signal is changed in line 266 (during the second vertical blanking !)
* Complete format size (with blanking) ; 858x525
* Image size : 720x487 (yes, a odd number)
* Pixelclock : 27 MHz
* Interlaced image

The current v4l2_bt_timings structure can not represent that correctly.

Notice that some SDI / VESA components could detect automatically input signal
format. A way to represent auto-mode activation should be useful.

** Possible solutions **

Indeed, it needs a new constant: V4L2_DV__STD_SDI (or other name).

I'm working on the first new structure proposal:

struct v4l2_sdi_timings {
__u32   width;
__u32   height;
__u32   interlaced;
__u32   polarities;
__u64   pixelclock;
__u32   hanc;
__u32   vanc1;
__u32   vanc2;  /* if interlaced */
__u32   field1;
__u32   field2; /* if interlaced */
__u32   standards;
__u32   flags;  /* add auto-mode flag */
__u32   reserved[?];
} __attribute__ ((packed));

The auto-mode should be set into flags value (V4L2_DV_AUTO_MODE ?). Or add a
specific field in this structure, but I think it is not necessary.
We need to add this structure into v4l2_dv_timings I think.
But, if this solution is used, we need to rewrite some generic functions about
timings in the V4L2 API...

It was a RFC based on my difficulties to write a driver for GS1662. Maybe
others components or elements have other issues and need a different solution.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Charles-Antoine Couret

It's an I2C device and it does use a regulator. Not a lot, though, these are
both quite basic stuff. This should still be documented as the people who
write the DT bindings (in general) aren't expected to read driver code as
well. That's at least my understanding.

[PATCH] [media] usbtv: improve a comment

2016-06-01 Thread Lubomir Rintel
Patrick Keshishian improved the explanation of the protocol when porting
the driver to OpenBSD. Given it's a reverse engineering one and there's
no documetnation it might be helpful to whoever hacks on the driver.

[PATCH] [media] usbtv: clarify the licensing

2016-06-01 Thread Lubomir Rintel
OpenBSD would like to reuse some code but consider the licensing not
clear enough. Let's clarify it a bit so that it suits their conventions:

1.) Keep the "extra text" away from the copyright statement and the
rights grant.

2.) Add the warranty disclaimer -- it should not be legally required,
nevertheless the clause 1. of the rights grant refest to it.
