RE: server rebooting frequently how to diagnose
Have you updated the BIOS to the latest? I received a big order of R710 and R610 last week which had this same issue. BIOS was out of date when I received my units. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=usl=ens=gendevi ceid=11809libid=1releaseid=R281097vercnt=7formatcnt=0SystemID=PWE_R71 0servicetag=os=WNETosl=encatid=-1dateid=-1typeid=-1formatid=-1impi d=-1checkFormat=true * Updated Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 5600 Series B1 stepping microcode (Patch ID=0x10). This update resolves an issue on the Westmere-EP (5600 series) processors that may result in an invalid memory DRAM state, system hang, reboot, memory ECC errors or unpredictable system behavior. This issue is not unique to Dell PowerEdge servers and is resolved by a new revision of Intel's microcode that is available in this BIOS revision. Intel Xeon 5500 series processors are not affected by this issue. Not sure if this applies to you as it depends on your processor. --Chase Bolt -Original Message- From: linux-poweredge-boun...@dell.com [mailto:linux-poweredge-boun...@dell.com] On Behalf Of Tapas Mishra Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2010 2:14 AM To: linux-poweredge@dell.com Subject: server rebooting frequently how to diagnose I am having a small problem on my Power Edge server. It is PowerEdge R710. It is rebooting frequently I am having a virtuallization setup over it. Some one a long time back had told me about some way to make a log on power edge via a utility which can have some sort of dumps. Which I can send to Dell for analysis if any one is able to understand what I am saying then give me a link. Or if there is some other way to debug this? -- Tapas Blog http://mightydreams.blogspot.com ___ Linux-PowerEdge mailing list Linux-PowerEdge@dell.com https://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq ___ Linux-PowerEdge mailing list Linux-PowerEdge@dell.com https://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq
Buyback Program?
We are looking at replacing about 50 servers and was wondering if Dell has a buyback program? Or does anyone know of a company that purchases old Dell equipment? (Resending this out as I had an issue with the mailing list and wasn't receiving any new posts) ___ Linux-PowerEdge mailing list Linux-PowerEdge@dell.com https://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq
Re: Third-party drives not permitted on Gen 11 servers
I hope this isn't true. If so I will have to start looking into a new solution for our server purchases as this is unacceptable. - Original Message - From: Philip Tait phi...@subaru.naoj.org To: Linux-PowerEdge@dell.com Sent: Friday, February 5, 2010 2:31:00 PM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: Third-party drives not permitted on Gen 11 servers I just received my first Gen11 server, R710, with H700 PERC. I removed the supplied drives, and installed 4 Barracuda ES.2s. After doing a Clear Configuration in the pre-boot RAID setup utility, I can perform no operation with the drives - they are marked as blocked. Is Dell preventing the use of 3rd-party HDDs now?
