RE: OpenManage and OpenSuse 11

2009-11-05 Thread Jeffrey_L_Mendoza
Hi All,

The yum repo bootstrap script looks for the presence of certain rpms to
determine if you are on suse: sles-release, sled-release, or suse-release. It
uses the version of that rpm to get you the right repo, sles 10 or sles 11.

I don't know if or what OMSA might check to see if you are using suse, and what
version. SLES 11 was not supported in OMSA 5.5, you'll need 6.1. I assume
OpenSuse 11.1 would be the same.

Are you sure the script is looking at /etc/issue? Do you mean the
bootstrap.cgi scripts? (I've never used nor needed them, just added the
two or three repos manually.)

Some upgrade has changed it back to 11.1, but it's a trivial
change. I went from:
Welcome to openSUSE 11.1 - Kernel \r (\l).
to:
   Welcome to openSUSE 11.0 - Kernel \r (\l).

I looked at the script source and it allowed Suse enterprise
a well as openSUSE.

So I just knocked down the point part, since 11.1 is 99.9%
compatible with 11.1.

You still have to load the 32bit pam but I think it was because
a deprecated module was still in pam32 and not in pam64, but I don't
remember the module name off hand...as when I did it, I was
working interactively with a Dell support rep who was helping
me to get it to work. I basically just called my Gold/Platinum
tech support number and kept on them until they made it work.

In my case, I couldn't resize a RAID array off the PERC controller
-- a "promised feature" and needed feature. I was astonished that
it wasn't doable in the BIOS...but NOT! OMSA was the only tool
they had to make it work. So, they were committed to getting OMSA
work to support the advertised features of the system.

I don't have software support. Before me, they didn't even
have OMSA 6.0 available for SUSE available for download (latest for
SUSE was 5.5, which doesn't work with the PE610/710 generation
machines.

I'm running OMSA 6.x on OpenSUSE 11.1 as well and I did not fiddle
anything - just installed the RPMs and they worked.

I wouldn't expect any program to look into /etc/issue at all - it's a
message for users. Maybe you mean /etc/SuSE-release? (Which is the
default one here as well).

Have you tried OM6.0? I think it is necessary for SUSE 11 support.
I have it running on my 11.1 system (after I changed the /etc/issue file
to tell it I was running 11.0). I was running 11.1 from the start, so had
to get the latest version, which has suse11 support...

Thanks for the suggestion, but installation isn't the problem. Already read
those instruction. It is installed fine, just the web interface won't work in
spite of the status messages... It isn't even listeining on its port.

OpenManage and OpenSuse 11

2009-11-02 Thread Patrick de Groot
OpenManage 5.5 web interface doesn't run on OpenSuse 11 (you may handle it
like Suse 11 if you like). It installs fine, but the web part does not run.
-command "omreport about" works
-"/etc/init.d/dsm_om_connsvc status" displays "running"
-"natstat -nat" doesn't display a row with port 1311 so clearly the service
isn't up and running. Problem seems similar to this one:
http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2008-October/037482.html

So what can I try or how do I debug this?

Thanks!
