Avrdude has support for GPIO flashing via sysfs.

The only drawback is that it is way slower then toggling the pins with
/dev/mem entries.

I have looked for a way to make the /dev/mem toggling generic via a
config file, but no luck so far.

Very interesting concept, I did see it on DP a while ago. We should add 
some info to our wiki. Personally I'd only be interested in programming 
AVR's using avr dude :D
