I believe that is correct, and the details in this section should be
uptodate:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Administration#Auto-discarding_spam
(I.e. They were added after the Mailman3 migration, and edited by multiple
people, so hopefully any errors have already been corrected!)
However, they could perhaps be improved with more examples?
(If anyone has questions about specific examples, perhaps ask on the
talkpage there?)

Please boldly edit the page to remove/update anything inaccurate, or raise
concerns on the talkpage!
+1 to your other comments.

I hope that helps,

I get a probe bounce once/month or so, usually for wikitech-ambassadors@
After forgetting about this thread, I almost filed a phab task, to ask if
we could make the message clearer.
But then I re-found this thread, and per Nemo's thought that it might not
be worth the effort of a technical change (and thinking about future
software-maintenance/translations/etc), I decided to simply document it in
a new section onwiki.

I haven't marked the page as "ready for translation" yet, in case more
edits are needed for accuracy or clarity (please do!)

[List admins] Re: Banned address still getting through

2022-08-05 Thread Nick Wilson (Quiddity)
Hi,
Re: Banning a domain - I think that regex you are using needs to be
changed.
As far as I know, the examples given here are all well-formed:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Administration#Auto-discarding_spam
(I added them there, after asking for help from others, so I hope so!)

Re: "non-members" - that's just an automated list of anyone who has ever
interacted with the list.[1] I believe we should leave the
spammer-addresses in there, but can change their moderation-settings to
"Discard".

[1]
https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/mailman/en/latest/src/mailman/model/docs/membership.html#nonmembers
- "Nonmembers are used to represent people who have posted to the mailing
list but are not subscribed to the mailing list. These may be legitimate
users who have found the mailing list and wish to interact without a direct
subscription, or they may be spammers who should never be allowed to
contact the mailing list."

Hope that helps!

Re: [List admins] Removed myself as owner of the pywikibot* mailman lists

2017-05-04 Thread Nick Wilson (Quiddity)
A couple of thoughts:
There are 3 sections of questions related to reducing spam, at the bottom
of https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mailing_lists/Administration if
anyone has tips/answers?

I've added details on a useful greasemonkey script (written by bd808), that
greatly speeds up the moderation process of discarding spam and adding
addresses to the auto-discard list, in a subsection of
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Administration#Tend_to_
pending_moderator_requests
