Here's some ideas... Links to prominent/important subsites or pages in your portal. Links to commonly used documents/forms. RSS Feed of News from an external news provider RSS Feed (or some other way) of the Weather Your Share Price Random or selected Staff profiles sourced from a list or from content in a sub-site. Random or selected Site/Location profiles sourced from a list or from content in a sub-site. Random or selected News stories sourced from a list or from content in a sub-site. Some pretty Flash. Re: [OzMOSS] Portal Page content
I think a random staff profile is honestly a REALLY good idea. Perhaps even write a web part that picks one per day. Depends on your corporate culture, obviously. RE: [OzMOSS] Search across multiple site collections
Maybe adding the separate sites to the crawling and indexing targets might solve your problem? From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Allan M Sent: Friday, 25 January 2008 8:43 PM To: listserver@ozmoss.com Subject: [OzMOSS] Search across multiple site collections Hello We have recently introduced MOSS 2007 to the company and have created several Wiki sites as different site collections. If it's even possible, how can we configure Sharepoint to search across ALL sites? Preferable the search drop-down box on each site would include a listing of the individual sites plus the words 'All Sites' in the event the user wants to search ian ndividual or all of them. Is this possible?? The individual sites are controlled through Active Directory group policy so naturally a user would only see the results from sites they have access to see. Great site and thanks in advance for any assistance. Regards Allan Find it at www.seek.com.au Your Future Starts Here. Dream it? RE: [OzMOSS] Portal Page content
Bill, It really depends on what information you think is most important to most of your users. The home page should summarise the most relevant content, and then allow your users to navigate to their particular areas of interest for more specific information. Out portal is made up of multiple Practices or Communities of Interest which allow staff to contribute information based upon their roles within the organisation, as well as areas they have an interest in. Our home page shows a summary of the following: - Useful internal/external links - Top 5 news items - Upcoming Social Events calender - Most recent internal Blogs - Employee Lookup - Quick Search - List of available Practices to join. Don't overcrowd the home page, after all, it's more of a welcoming page to allow the user to get a quick glance of what's around. RE: [OzMOSS] Portal Page content
Check out this MOSS 2007 internet website as an example - http://amanaliving.com.au/Pages/index.aspx The home page randomly displays a staff profile under Spotlight On Our People, and it's linked to the individual staff member's profile page. It features a different person with every refresh, only a subset of 3 have been selected to be featured randomly on the homepage though, all configurable via a site list. [OzMOSS] Delete Web App
I recently had a problem with a web app that i managed to fix by extending it to another IIS site, the orginal still doesnt work but the new does. The issue i have now is that the site, port and host header are now different are now site2 port 81 instead of the orignal site1 port 80. I have yet to be able to test but can you delete the web app that was the first extended (site1) and then does the working one (site2) still work. If that is the case i can then eventually use AAM to get my urls right etc but i am unsure of this at the moment. Also can anyone tell me how if i want to change the web app port or host header or authentication can i do that without extending to another iis site. I would have thought you could do it within the same web app. Thanks Greg --- OzMOSS.com - to unsubscribe from this list, send a message back to the list with 'unsubscribe' as the subject. RE: [OzMOSS] Delete Web App
I think so. I've had to do this before. (Both of your questions) However I've found the best way of doing this for me was as follows Delete the site that is broken, Create a new site, with the port number and URL that you require Detach the database for the new site via a batch command Attach the old database to the new site. I'm self taught to do with everything with SP, I've found sql studio express, a free download to be invaluable Cheers Craig -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Greg Mulholland Sent: Thursday, 31 January 2008 2:07 PM To: listserver@ozMOSS.com Subject: [OzMOSS] Delete Web App I recently had a problem with a web app that i managed to fix by extending it to another IIS site, the orginal still doesnt work but the new does.
