[OzMOSS] 2003 - 2007

2008-04-29 Thread Chris Grist
Hi Guys,

Bit of background:

We have two portals, 1x 2003, 1x moss2007.

We are only going to be moving certain content which is why we did not do a
upgrade due to the old one being a mess.

Some users are recreating there sites fresh but some need some content moved.

What is the quickest/easiest way to move a 03 site to the 07 portal?

Am I able to export it somehow? I tried with SharePoint designer but it saves
03 and 07 sites in different formats.

Would be great if you guys could help.

2008-04-29 Thread Trevor Johnson
Could you remove the unwanted content from your 2003 site, upgrade to
a new instance of 2007, then export from the new 2007 instance to your
preferred 2007 instance???

Or Just upgrade to a new instance of 2007, then export from the new
2007 instance the subsites you want to your preferred 2007 instance???

Regards

Trevor

RE: [OzMOSS] 2003 - 2007

2008-04-29 Thread Aaron Cunnington
It really depends on what you need to come across, if it is just documents
and not so much of the metadata like who created the document and when, then
you can manually migrate the content (how much volume are you looking at?),
if you need a bunch of metadata, such as created by and date etc, you can
either purchase a tool such as the Doc Ave migrator, or you can write some
code which can do most of the work. We have tried both, each has their
merits.

The code option can be time consuming (and therefore may be worth going down
the migration product route), but you can get to most of the 2003 content
via the web services, and then just have your app sitting on the 2007
machine using the MOSS api's. Custom built migration is difficult to get all
the history across (version history and history of comments on issues lists
etc) but if you only need the content as it was in its last state in v2,
then it is possible. If having all the history is required, look at some of
the migration tools, they can vary in cost considerably.

Good luck! :)

Aaron
